(AP)  Hundreds of U.S. soldiers entered the Shiite stronghold of Sadr City on Sunday in the first major push into the area since an American-led security sweep began last month around Baghdad.

Soldiers conducted house-to-house searches through the densely populated grid of squat two- and three-story buildings, but met no resistance in a district firmly in the hands of the Mahdi Army militia led by the radical cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, said Lt. Col. David Oclander.

Maj. Gen. William Caldwell, a U.S. military spokesman, told Al-Arabiya television U.S. officials spoke daily with community leaders in Sadr City before entering the stronghold.

"If you go to Sadr City today you will see joint Iraqi and American troops cooperating with the head of the Sadr City council," Caldwell said in comments translated into Arabic. "There is no problem between the two sides, and we are trying to set up a small security center there."

Al-Sadr withdrew his militia under intense pressure from the government, but there were worries that a large-scale military push without political clearance could bring a backlash and jeopardize the entire security effort.

"The indication that we are getting is a lot of the really bad folks have gone into hiding," Oclander said.

Police said there had been U.S. military activity at the al-Jazair police station in Sadr City since Friday, where troops were thought to be converting the facility into a joint operations center. Bulldozers maneuvered in the station's yard.

U.S. troops, assisted by Iraqi forces, also moved through the Jamila area on the northern edge of Sadr City and sealed off some streets, police said. Last year, U.S. patrols came under frequent attack in Jamila.

A spokesman for Sadr's bloc in parliament, Falah Hassan, said there was "no reason" for such a "provocative act."

"We understood that Iraqi forces only would conduct the search and if that they faced resistance, then U.S. forces could intervene," he said. "But that was not the case with today's operation."

Sadr City presents one of the most difficult steps in the security sweeps that began Feb. 14.

The Mahdi Army's cooperation is essential to keep the plan from derailing, but al-Sadr has complained about the heavy U.S. role in the raids and its inability to stop car bombs and other attacks blamed on Sunni insurgent groups.

Earlier, Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki spoke about the Baghdad security plan at a reconciliation conference of former army officers in Baghdad.

"The law must prevail and all Iraqis must be equal in front it, regardless of their religious and ethnic background or political affiliation," al-Maliki said.

Separately, U.S. troops raided a mosque in Baghdad and captured three suspected insurgents hiding inside. The detainees included a man believed to be responsible for distributing weapons to build bombs for attacks on American and Iraqi forces, the military said.

U.S. rules of engagement allow troops to enter mosques only in rare cases.

"We do not enter mosques for the sole purposes of disrupting insurgent activities or conducting a show of force. Mosque entries occur only as a last resort," said Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, a military spokesman.

U.S. soldiers "respect the sanctity and holiness of all places of worship," he said.

During the operation, an Iraqi woman suffered wounds to her thigh and head, the statement said.

Also Sunday, the U.S. military announced that more than 50 insurgents were detained in a three-day operation last month in Salahuddin province north of Baghdad. Three suspected insurgents were killed in the raids, the military said.

At least 10 people died in violence, including three women and a child — all Shiite pilgrims heading to the holy city of Karbala — killed in a roadside bombing in Hillah, about 60 miles south of Baghdad and , police said. Also among those killed was the editor of an independent Iraqi newspaper, who was shot to death during a botched kidnapping attempt died outside his home in western Baghdad, a colleague said.

Also Sunday, a kidnapped Iraqi defense official was freed after Iraqi security forces stormed a house where he had been held, a government spokesman said.

Brig. Gen. Qassim al-Mousawi said Iraqi agents were acting on a tip when they raided a house in western Baghdad near where Lt. Gen. Thamir Sultan, a Defense Ministry adviser, was abducted a day earlier. He was freed, and his four captors were arrested, al-Mousawi said.

What Thomas Jefferson learned
from the Muslim book of jihad

Thomas Jefferson knew about fascist nazi islam..... he killed plenty of them....

In 1786 Jefferson and John Adams went to negotiate with Tripoli's envoy to London, Ambassador Sidi Haji Abdrahaman or (Sidi Haji Abdul Rahman Adja). They asked him by what right he extorted money and took slaves. Jefferson reported to Secretary of State John Jay, and to the Congress:

The ambassador answered us that [the right] was founded on the Laws of the Prophet (Mohammed), that it was written in their Koran, that all nations who should not have answered their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as prisoners, and that every Mussulman who should be slain in battle was sure to go to heaven.[1]

By the choice of a user name more easily updated after being banned from comments than the lieber-nut who is now on his 4th or 5th incarnation, lars has shown a bit better judgement. However , obviously quoting extensive passages of another author's work without proper attribution is called plagiarism. Using those extensive passages without permission is called copyright infringement.

While I applaud the effort to post more coherent comments, there really must be some middle ground between the old rant and paste efforts and the new plagiarize and post. Take your time, you can do it.

"...and Cuckolded Shrew should learn. If they don't, we will get rid of them soon enough." Posted by Lieber1881

This lieber-nothing is one of those individuals who prove that a little knowledge will tell when an ignorant or uneducated person tries to overreach his vocabulary. As this type roams around in the sewers of humanity for something to throw, he's a little more successful but much more odious for that romp. He refers to Sen C as the Cuckolded Shrew. Sen or Mrs C in the context he tries to use, cannot be cockolded, period - end of story. A cuckold faces the impossibility of becoming a shrew without gender surgery. It is possible only in a lieberous hermaphroditic creature. In short, he bushed up.

His choice of pet names is almost rovian, but as he bushed it up. It's interesting that his type conservative is for less government, except for those prying into personal and private lives of citizens. They favor less taxation for those of us who can best afford it. They tend to be hawkish and pretend fervor in supporting our military, but instead of using these individuals wisely, they allow a rhinestone cowboy to use them on a whim. They balk at the cost to provide necessary protective equipment and the medical and rehabilitative services our warriors require, at least in part because of the lack of the equipment. Clueless leader bushes over the troops and they cheer.

Let's hope that Sec. Gates isn't forced to resign for showing some competence.

Jefferson had been right. The "medium of war" was the only way to put and end to the Muslim problem

They figured out the problem with Islam before the 1st Crusade. You dont think the Crusades were Christain agression do ya? No. They were a response to 400 years of bloody Islamic expansion. The Muslims took control of the entire Christian Middle East, to include Egypt, and were on the verge of taking what was left of Byzantine, when the Crusades began. They didnt happen until millions of Christians, and dozens of Christian nations, had already fallen.

Dont suck up to the propoganda, they spread lies to influence you, to goad you into guilt for your ancestors acts, while they continue to follow the examples of thiers, with the sword of Mohammad.

The face of Mohammad may be pleasant to look upon, but behind his back is a bloody knife.

Not only Jefferson, but TR also knew how to deal with Islamo terrorists:

Remember "Pedicaris Alive or Raisuli Dead" - and it worked.

Something Botox Girl, Prune Face Harry, the two traitor Johns, Steppin Fetchit and his Massa Byrd, and Cuckolded Shrew should learn. If they don't, we will get rid of them soon enough.

Victory - not defeat. Subjugation of Sharia NOT treason from the Liberal Dems and their equally Hate America Neo-Nazi allies.

What Thomas Jefferson learned
from the Muslim book of jihad

It wasn't until 1815 that the problem was fully settled by the total defeat of all the Muslim slave trading pirates.

Jefferson had been right. The "medium of war" was the only way to put and end to the Muslim problem. He was a "visionary" wise enough to read and learn about the enemy from their own Muslim book of jihad.

What Thomas Jefferson learned
from the Muslim book of jihad

For the following 15 years, the American government paid the Muslims millions of dollars for the safe passage of American ships or the return of American hostages. The payments in ransom and tribute amounted to 20 percent of United States government annual revenues in 1800.

Not long after Jefferson's inauguration as president in 1801, he dispatched a group of frigates to defend American interests in the Mediterranean, and informed Congress.

Declaring that America was going to spend "millions for defense but not one cent for tribute," Jefferson pressed the issue by deploying American Marines and many of America's best warships to the Muslim Barbary Coast.

The USS Constitution, USS Constellation, USS Philadelphia, USS Chesapeake, USS Argus, USS Syren and USS Intrepid all saw action.

In 1805, American Marines marched across the desert from Egypt into Tripolitania, forcing the surrender of Tripoli and the freeing of all American slaves.

During the Jefferson administration, the Muslim Barbary States, crumbling as a result of intense American naval bombardment and on shore raids by Marines, finally officially agreed to abandon slavery and piracy.

Jefferson's victory over the Muslims lives on today in the Marine Hymn, with the line, "From the halls of Montezuma, to the shores of Tripoli, We fight our country's battles in the air, on land and sea."

What Thomas Jefferson learned
from the Muslim book of jihad

Adams argued in favor of paying tribute as the cheapest way to get American commerce in the Mediterranean moving again. Jefferson was opposed. He believed there would be no end to the demands for tribute and wanted matters settled "through the medium of war." He proposed a league of trading nations to force an end to Muslim piracy.

In 1786, Jefferson, then the American ambassador to France, and Adams, then the American ambassador to Britain, met in London with Sidi Haji Abdul Rahman Adja, the "Dey of Algiers" ambassador to Britain.

The Americans wanted to negotiate a peace treaty based on Congress' vote to appease.

During the meeting Jefferson and Adams asked the Dey's ambassador why Muslims held so much hostility towards America, a nation with which they had no previous contacts.

In a later meeting with the American Congress, the two future presidents reported that Ambassador Sidi Haji Abdul Rahman Adja had answered that Islam "was founded on the Laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Quran, that all nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as Prisoners, and that every Musselman (Muslim) who should be slain in Battle was sure to go to Paradise."

What Thomas Jefferson learned
from the Muslim book of jihad

Boys, as young as 9 or 10 years old, were often mutilated to create eunuchs who would bring higher prices in the slave markets of the Middle East. Muslim slave traders created "eunuch stations" along major African slave routes so the necessary surgery could be performed. It was estimated that only a small number of the boys subjected to the mutilation survived after the surgery.

When American colonists rebelled against British rule in 1776, American merchant ships lost Royal Navy protection. With no American Navy for protection, American ships were attacked and their Christian crews enslaved by Muslim pirates operating under the control of the "Dey of Algiers"--an Islamist warlord ruling Algeria.

Because American commerce in the Mediterranean was being destroyed by the pirates, the Continental Congress agreed in 1784 to negotiate treaties with the four Barbary States. Congress appointed a special commission consisting of John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin, to oversee the negotiations.

Lacking the ability to protect its merchant ships in the Mediterranean, the new America government tried to appease the Muslim slavers by agreeing to pay tribute and ransoms in order to retrieve seized American ships and buy the freedom of enslaved sailors.

What Thomas Jefferson learned
from the Muslim book of jihad

once well-known in the history of the United States, but, which today, is mostly forgotten - the Muslim pirate slavers who over many centuries enslaved millions of Africans and tens of thousands of Christian Europeans and Americans in the Islamic "Barbary" states.

Over the course of 10 centuries, Muslim pirates cruised the African and Mediterranean coastline, pillaging villages and seizing slaves.

The taking of slaves in pre-dawn raids on unsuspecting coastal villages had a high casualty rate. It was typical of Muslim raiders to kill off as many of the "non-Muslim" older men and women as possible so the preferred "booty" of only young women and children could be collected.

Young non-Muslim women were targeted because of their value as concubines in Islamic markets. Islamic law provides for the sexual interests of Muslim men by allowing them to take as many as four wives at one time and to have as many concubines as their fortunes allow.
