Some of them are as simple as cutting out wrapping paper and putting it in a frame.

  • Start with a shower curtain you love , especially in a small bath or on a tight budget. It's your largest accent. Pull two colors from it: one for wall paint and one as an accent color for towels and accessories. This should be the focal point of the room.
ANTHROPOLOGIE: www.anthropologie.com, $78, White poplin screen-printed with stippled swirls of black and dove grey.

  • Mix and match your towels using two colors or patterns. Mix and match the textures, too. Mixing it up is important because it keeps keep the bathroom from looking dated.
ANTHROPOLOGIE: www.anthropologie.com, Lincoln Park Bath Linens: $8 to $36, These have the same colors as the shower curtain, but a slightly different pattern. Also, they are reversible.
TARGET: www.target.com Around the World Accent Dots, Three- Piece Set: $19.99, White towels with black polka-dot accents and ribbon trim (black with white polka dots).

  • Mix and match your accessories the same way you would your towels. Hide necessities in plain sight is by putting them in pretty colored glass containers.

  • Add something unexpected, like a clock to help in the early morning rush hour, or a bench as an extra surface, or even an urn.

WISTERIA: www.wisteria.com Black and White Inlaid Bone Bench, $549
