Nader May Run If Hillary Is Dems' Nominee

(AP)  Consumer advocate Ralph Nader hinted Thursday that he would enter the presidential race in the next year if Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton becomes the Democratic Party's nominee.

"Flatters, panders, coasting, front-runner, looking for a coronation. ... She has no political fortitude," Nader said of Clinton during a radio appearance when he was asked to describe the former First Lady.

"She's just another bad version of (former President) Bill Clinton," he told KGO radio.

Nader, whose Green Party candidacy for president in 2000 was blamed for helping put George Bush in the White House by siphoning votes from Vice President Al Gore, said he was considering running again in 2008.

"We're going to see what the Democrats come up with," he said.

Nader, who was in San Francisco promoting a new memoir, "The Seventeen Traditions," also has been hard on other Congressional Democrats during his book tour, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a San Franciscan.

He said he planned to visit Pelosi's office in the city to protest the war in Iraq.

While Nader received 2.7 percent of the vote in 2000, he got less than one-half of 1 percent in 2004.

Phil Trounstine, who heads the San Jose State Center for Policy and Research, said Nader's flirtation with another presidential bid is viewed by many as evidence that he is on "an enormous ego trip with potentially destructive impact."

For those who would blindly support Ralph Nader, I would submit you haven't met the man. I have. And, though it was a very brief meeting, I can truthfully say that Mr. Nader is the biggest, most egotistical, blowhard I've ever had the displeasure to cross paths with. I'd vote for David Dukes before I'd vote for this irrelevant idiot.

Only in America! Only in America a guy like Nader gets attention. The good guy just enjoys doing harm. He will get funds from Republicans, I bet! Again!

HawkSprings,

Re: "If Nader can run for pres and peal off 5% or more of the liberal vote, that would be perfect."

I would not count on that.

Many traditional conservatives are repulsed by the current fascistic ideological character of the Republican Party, and with their seemingly endless trail of corruption and failure. The Republicans are becoming less relevant by the day.

Mr. Nader's Presidential platforms have had a basis of honesty, common sense, and fairness.
These concepts appeal to sensible people from accross our political spectrum, and this point has been demonstrated at the polls.

Why is Ralph not so gung-ho against an even MORE SINISTER presently leading Americans over the abyss?

Ralph Nether is nothing but a sorry arse, pathetic and senile old man, a loser who hasn't enough healthy brains cells left to instruct him even to just die or at least go away.

While Hilary is a feeble and foolish female, and political ho who prostituted herself in order to curry favors with the lowest among Americans, at the end of the day Hilary is still better than her ALL her opposition who refuse to get Americans out of Iraq now!

Well I guess this is one of those things we'll have to agree to disagree about.

Peace out.

RandalDS,

It sounds like you are fighting for looser chains here. I prefer to feel free.

I think that we must demand dignity and accountability from our leaders, even if we can't expect it right away. This is currently "off the table" for the Democrats.

Take care.

RandalDS,

Re: "He just doesn't stand a chance of winning"

It is not a horse race. Why not just compare bank accounts to determine the winner?

Re: "so if you want to vote for him fine, but all he is doing is draining away people who, if they vote at all, would certainly have voted democrat."

I can promise you that this is not the case for me. What is the basis of this claim?

Re: "The lesser of two evils is still better then the greater of two"

Either road leads to failure.

Re: "The reality is that for now a vote for a 3rd party candidate, for any reason at all, is still a wasted vote."

Voting for the person that best represents your values is never a wasted vote, in a representative democracy, and it is always a victory, in my opinion.

Yes these are not the two parties we've always had, but that said they are they parties we have now. It's possible that someday a 3rd party candidate will be elected president, but not for the foreseeable future and certainly not a polarizing figure like Nader. He just doesn't stand a chance of winning, so if you want to vote for him fine, but all he is doing is draining away people who, if they vote at all, would certainly have voted democrat. The lesser of two evils is still better then the greater of two when that's the only realistic choice you have. The reality is that for now a vote for a 3rd party candidate, for any reason at all, is still a wasted vote.

RandalDS,

Re: "(though I'll be holding my nose when I vote)"

Doesn't voting for the 'lesser of 2 evils', guarantee us to receive evil, every time?
