(CBS/AP)  A U.S. Army officer who investigated possible abuse at Guantanamo Bay after some guards allegedly bragged about beating detainees found no evidence they really mistreated the prisoners, military officials said Wednesday.

Col. Richard Bassett, the chief investigator, did not recommend disciplinary action against the Navy guards named by Marine Sgt. Heather Cerveny, who had said that during a conversation in September they described beating detainees as common practice.

In an affidavit filed to the Pentagon's inspector general, Cerveny — a member of a detainee's legal defense team — said a group of more than five men who identified themselves as guards had recounted hitting detainees. The conversation allegedly took place at a bar inside the base.

"The evidence did not support any of the allegations of mistreatment or harassment," the Miami-based Southern Command, which oversees Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in southeastern Cuba, said in a statement.

Investigators conducted 20 interviews with "suspects and witnesses," the Southern Command said. The statement did not say whether Bassett interviewed any detainees, including any of the alleged victims.

Bassett's findings were approved by Adm. James Stavridis, the head of the Southern Command.

The investigation began Oct. 13 and was expanded 10 days later to include a similar allegation from a civilian employee who recounted a conversation between a female guard and a male interrogator, according to the statement. Following Bassett's recommendations, Stavridis said a "letter of counseling" should be sent to the female guard who allegedly initiated a "fictitious account" of detainee abuse.

Meanwhile, CBS News has learned that a Defense Department plan to seek funding for a $100 million courthouse to try terror suspects at Guantanamo Bay has been put on hold.

Imagine that! The Army investigates itself and finds itself innocent of wrong-doing.
So what else is new?

What a fu*cking joke. Until there is a real independent investigation into Gitmo abuses no one will ever believe this government. It's a North American Gulag and an embarrassment in front of the world. It's against everything America has ever stood for and the as*sholes who built it and keep it open are no better then concentration camp wardens.

Too bad. If they hook them up to field phone wires, it won't leave any marks.

I think we should investigate Emperor Pelosi's request for a jet big enough to carry 42 people along with a crew of 16. Guess she wants her cut now. Wonder where the outrage is?

So much for her "new direction."

Oh, she meant a new direction for the jet to fly....I get it. Hypocrits!

Five men brag in a bar about beating inmates.

The official investigation finds no evidence at all, not even one beating. All photos of suspects have them smiling, yes they are missing teeth and pale and thin, but its because of poor dental hygiene, you know those chucklehead Islamists, always forgetting to brush and eat breakfast.

ISLAM / PERFECT EXAMPLE OF FASCISM!!!
islam is intent on killing or enslaving all non muslims......

The most notable characteristic of a fascist country is the separation and persecution or denial of equality to a specific segment of the population based upon superficial qualities or belief systems.
Simply stated, a fascist government always has one class of citizens that is considered superior (good) to another (bad) based upon race, creed or origin. It is possible to be both a republic and a fascist state. The preferred class lives in a republic while the oppressed class lives in a fascist state.

Hey dudes, these people have no moral problem lying to us or withholding information. If their koran does not condemn them from killing us kaffirs(infidels, unbelievers), what makes you think they have any problem deceiving us? Ask your neighborhood imam if a muslim is bound by the koran to speak truth to infidels. I know of one religious muslim I met in the 90's who said that he could do any immoral thing he wanted to do in the USA because our country is profane, so prafane that allah doesn't even look at it. I know that's weird but it's what he says his imam told him. If that's their belief, then why are they here? He was a college student in Tennesee. Makes me wonder about what he really is here for now.

singingrick - there a lot of muslims coming to faith that I could tell you about if not for security reasons. They are born into a religious system and there is no belief experience for them, it's just like we go learn the abc's - they go to a madras school and learn what is REQUIRED of them. They have never known a moment's freedom. One man I know of was baptized at night and shuttled out of the country for his own life's sake. Yes, tell the muslims the truth, only way to defeat them is to win them.

book54552134 complains about the army investigating itself, but he or she offers nothing in the way of a good solution to this problem. Just noise. Remember, the heading of the article said it was a "rumor". Rumors are a vicious thing. The far right media uses this to its best advantage and often captures the attention of folks such as yourself. All someone has to do is to lie about you and the damage is done. There does not have to be proof that you are guilty and you are left trying to explain how innocent you are. Your reputation is shot. People who think things through and obtain all the facts before putting there foot in their mouth are generally thought of as being intellengent and fair minded. All others are thought of as cattle or sheep

Under no circumstances is Jehovah, the God of the Bible, and Allah, of the Koran, the same. First of all, the God of the Bible is a God of love and redemption, who sent His Son into the world to die for our sins. Allah tells people to die for him in order to get salvation, but there is no understanding of salvation. Allah was the moon god from Mecca. That is why Islam has the crescent moon. The flag of Turkey has a crescent moon with a star in it. Well, the crescent moon is because Allah was the moon god, and that is the deal. But we don't serve a moon god. We serve the God of creation, the Creator of everything.
They are not the same. To translate Allah as God is wrong. When you see something in there and it says Allah, you translate it Allah. Don't call it God because it is different. God is Elohim. He is the Creator, the Jehovah God, Yahweh. Yahweh of the Old Testament was the Father who brought forth Jesus into the world.

singingrick (or lars008):

I think it's time for you to start acting like a real christian should and start spreading the message of love and forgiveness instead of your typical message of hatred and fear.

It's quite interesting how you never let the truth get in the way of your comments, I mean, why mention the KKK when you can mention suicide bombers, or those christian fundamentalist idiots who have no problem killing doctors or blowing up abortion clinics.

I mean, why mention American hate groups who teach their kids to hate blacks because of the color of their skin or Jews because of their religion.

Here's an interesting fact for you singingrick (or lars008), "teaching hatred" isn't something that Americans are immune to.

Just read one of your posts that links to hate sites for the perfect example.

It's quite hypocritical for you to talk of others who you think spread messages of hatred towards christians, when you yourself are doing it towards Muslims.

In other words, singinglars, you're a hypocrite.

In light of secret foreign prisons, the vivid pictures at Abu Gharib of dogs, hooded prisoners standing on a box with electrodes protruding, numerous accounts of waterboarding, and other torture the only individuals who could possibly believe in the "validity" of this self serving "investigation" are the same idiots who believe in Jewish mythology (just like Greek mythology of the past). In this regard, all Muslims, Jews and Christians are ALL equally stupid and delusional. Fairy tale time...
