Easy-Bake Ovens Recalled

Some 985,000 Easy-Bake Ovens are being recalled by Hasbro.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission says kids can get their hands or fingers caught in the toys, and perhaps, suffer burns.

The agency says there have been 29 reports of children getting their hands or fingers caught in the oven's opening, including five reports of burns.

The CPSC's Julie Vallese discussed the recall with co-anchor Julie Chen on The Early Show Tuesday. To watch the segment, .

The Easy-Bake Oven is a purple and pink plastic oven that resembles a kitchen range, with four burners on top and a front-loading oven. "Easy Bake" is printed on the front of the oven. Model number 65805 and "Hasbro" are stamped into the plastic on the back of the oven.

The CPSS points out that the oven is an electric toy and isn't recommended for kids under eight-years-old.

Toys R Us, Wal-Mart, Target, KB Toys and other retailers nationwide sold the ovens in question from May 2006 through February 2007, for about $25. Ovens sold before May 2006 aren't included in the recall.

Consumers should contact Easy-Bake between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. ET, seven days a week to receive a free retrofit kit with consumer warning.

For more information, contact Easy-Bake at (800) 601-8418, or visit the company's Web site.

Ok, ya know the thing here is parents are too busy on their little cell phones worrying about work or who the next boyfriend/girlfriend will be to even notice their kid putting her fingers in the toy oven! How can a parent complaign when they are not the ones paying attention!!! Hello, parents who complained: God gave you children to raise as his children, so pay some attention to them and raise them right!

I gave my daughter this easy-bake oven for Christmas and she was smart enough not put her fingers in the oven. She knows not to put her fingers on something that is hot or she will get burned. I was also around at the time she was using the oven and I made sure that she didn't do anything stupid and she didn't. Where are the parents during these incidents. We worked together using the oven and nothing happened. More parents need to do things together with their children. It was a family event and it was fun. You don't just give a child an gift like that and say, well go have fun, and let then work with it alone. They are kids and they just might do something that they should not do, even if you believe your child is smart enough not to do it.

Great idea! Now hows about recalling all those weapons, planes and explosives. I think the photos from Iraq speak for themselves. There's no perhaps on the caught, suffer, and burns. Looks pretty documented.

Oh good grief. HELLOOOO...The Easy Bake Oven has been around since before "I" was a kid and I'm not telling how long that's been but it's been a while.

If I was stupid enough as a kid to stick my hand in the oven and get "burned" my parents would have just looked at me and said..."you should have known better than that"!!! "FIRE HOT!"

HELLOOOOOO parents...If I'm not mistaken, in the directions it includes some C-R-A-Z-Y notion about "Parental Supervision Required"...Hmmm...I wonder what THAT could mean????? If the oven had a "defect" that perhaps caused it to short out and burn the house down...sure...recall it...but because somebody's kid was dumb enough to stick their fingers and Mom or Dad wasn't paying attention. That's not a "defect" that's called STUPID...bet they don't do it twice. You stick the injury under some cold water and apply burn aid all the while giving them a leture about not EVER sticking their fingers in ANY oven...HELLOOOOO.

In the meantime let's recall the "Light Bulb". I hear that gets hot too.

I'm all for "protecting children" but I think the first line of defense is a parent that's actually WATCHING the child.

Next, it will be the Lite Brite and the classic Barbie doll being recalled... all because the modern-day parent isn't a parent anymore. If you don't have the common sense to SUPERVISE a young child with a toy, DO NOT have children! If you must have children, then a) don't buy these toys, and b) don't cry to your attorney every time you or your unsupervised kid gets hurt. Have some common sense!

This country is really going backwards... FAST!

I also had the oven when I was a kid and it had a light bulb. If you watch the CBS video on this page, you will see that it no longer does. I don't expect you have kids, but accidents happen no matter how closely we watch. My child was not one of the accidents, but I feel for them. Perhaps your lightbulb should be changed!!
