Jennifer Lopez: My Dad Is A Scientologist

(CBS)  Jennifer Lopez defends people who practice Scientology and says that her dad has practiced Scientology for the past 20 years.

NBC 6's Jackie Nespral asked the singer and actress about her friend, actress Leah Remini, a devout Scientologist, and if she too is interested in the religion.

"I'm not a scientologist, I was raised Catholic," Lopez said. "But it's funny the way people come at it. To me it's so strange. These are some of the best people I've ever met in my life. You know, they're just lovely, genuine people. They way they ask is such a, 'Uh, are you (a scientologist)?' It's such a negative thing and I just don't see it that way."

Lopez has a personal connection to the faith. "My dad has been a Scientologist for 20 years. He's the best man that I know in my life and so, it's weird to me that people want to paint it in a negative way," she said.

Lopez attended the Scientology nuptials of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' in Italy in November. "It was a great celebration of their love … It was beautiful" Lopez said of the much-publicized event.

I ask again.... did Tom Cruise claim to be Jesus Christ or even "Christ-like." Folks I'm not saying I don't believe these "a source close to the actor." But after seeing how rumor after reported RUMOR has been made-up or "just rumors" to sell a story, I only believe what is actually said by people not afraid to hide behind "source quotes." I'll be waiting for his big announcement that "he is the chosen one." Can you tell I'm a realist and will not fall for hype?

- Church believes he will spread the word of Scientology across the world.

Tom Cruise is the "Christ" of Scientology.

The actor, who is a devout follower of the bizarre sci-fi cult, has been hailed by leaders of the faith as the "chosen one" who will spread the word of the religion.

High-ranking Scientologist David Miscavige is convinced in years to come Cruise, 44, will be worshiped like Jesus all over the world as he becomes a prophet for the religion.

A source close to the actor is quoted by The Sun as saying: "Tom has been told he is Scientology's Christ-like figure. Just like Christ, he has been criticized for his views. But future generations will realize he was right, just like Jesus."

Where did you read this scullymom??? I've read and heard much about Tom Cruise and his choice of religion, but NEVER have I heard that! Exactly where did you read this and does Mr. Cruise try to say he is Christ our Saviour? Funny, I've not read or heard that one either. Did you read this where they claimed Katie was never pregnant and Suri never born? Or maybe the one who has Scientology as part of outer space and space people? Did you hear the one from a rag that said that Katie did the silent birth (Katie in interviews tells of requesting drugs to help the pain and Tom asking the nurse to get it for her). Let people alone. They're in love and happy--something that doesn't happen often with Hollywood. They have security due to a stalker that is obsessed with Katie. Yet suddenly in the news, it's because Tom has her held prisoner! Don't believe everything you read and use commonsense in what you say and repeat. BTW-I'm not an Scientologist and go to church every Wednesday and Sunday to pray to God and his son Jesus Christ. I also pray for people who are mislead by others, including by religions and rumors. I believe prayer will help more than spreading lies or half-truths.
