Just last month the 20-year-old star admitted attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Now, Lohan says she's made a decision to take care of her health.
Lindsay's mother, Dina Lohan, spoke exclusively to "Entertainment Tonight" about her daughter's troubles, and she blames the tabloids for being relentless in pursuing the young actress.
"Lindsay's under a microscope," she says. "The media puts this ridiculousness out there."
It's a big concern for her mother.
"You know, the positive thing is someone is trying to help themselves, and I'll leave it at that," Lohan tells "ET." "There are helicopters outside our apartment. I mean, this child can't even go to Starbucks without someone saying 'Oh, her hair looks ...' "
The actress checked herself into the exclusive "Wonderland Center" for addiction treatment this week. There were reports of her partying until 6 in the morning at the Beverly Hilton hotel after the Golden Globes.
"You know, I'm her mother, I'm not her keeper," her mom says. "I'm 40-ish, and it hurts me and Lindsay's like 'Mommy look what they wrote about me. Are you kidding?' "
Dina Lohan says she won't accept the blame for her daughter's pain. She just wants the media to back off.
"You saw 'Mean Girls,' I'm sure," Lohan says. "It's almost 'Mean Girls' tabloid."
Lindsay Lohan had a simple operation a few weeks ago and it triggered an explosion of accusations in the press.
"She had her appendix out, that was it," her mom says. "No liver, no ... They said she had an abortion, unfortunately… some radio station. But people are gonna go 'Is it true? Is it not true?' "
Lohan's mother says what her daughter needs most now is a little breathing room.
"Freedom of speech is one thing. Defamation of character is quite another," Dina Lohan says. "I just pray the tabloids give us our space and leave us alone."
And if the tabloids continue their love affair with the young star, Lohan's mother fears there will be no rest for Lindsay.
"Jessica Simpson and her husband, I think, you know the tabloids broke up their marriage," she says. "If somebody messes up, you are all screw-ups."

DINA needs to go to rehab of some sort as well, since SHE has enabled her daughter by ALLOWING her into over 21 clubs, getting hooked up with young men, boozers and addicts.
Mom has reaped the benefits of celebrity in order to be seen.
Dina and the clubs are guilty of putting children at risk for dependency to benefit themselves.
I have emailed departments in various cities in NY and CA, but, big surprise, no replies as to what they intend to do about upholding the law.
I guess the law-breaking provides just too much income and young people's welfare is overlooked.
America is at the Mall
America is watching "reality" TV
America is cashing in massive tax-cuts (if you are very wealthy of course)
America - 99.8% - is not sacrificing AT ALL
The TROOPS are at WAR.
The TROOPS - our middleclass kids - are maimed and are dying for the wealthy NeoCom War Profiteers
That is why there is a "volunteer" Army
That is why tuition has skyrocketed and student loans have dried up.
That is why we pay a few BILLION in military recruitment costs.
It is EASY to run an needless horrific WAR for power and profit, when you can isolate the real impact to 0.2% of the population

as a recovering alcoholic, i can say parenting doesn't have anything to do with it. substance abuse is mostly caused by physical and mental predisposition. when will all you self-righteous a-holes get that part correct?
the question is whether lindsey lohan can summon up the courage to face her issues, get clean, and stay clean.
her mother should realize that with fame comes a price and dina lohan should shutup and enjoy the monetary free ride she gets from having a child celeb.

- Clearly the mother of Lindsey Lohan, nor the father, do not have the slightest idea of how incorrectly they raised their child.

See all 12 CommentsWhat type of people would raise a child that ends up in rehab. My parents, as well as the school system, taught me drugs and alcohol were bad news. The mother needs to take responsibility for her obvious inability to raise her daughter and stop using the press as a gateway to rationalize her daughter's mistakes.
