It's no coincidence that your news program aired this story when the majority of commercials shown during the broadcast were for prescription drug companies! And after coming to your site to comment, low and behold, the first ad I am greeted with is for a prescription drug! I look forward to watching Part 2 of your story tomorrow evening, just to laugh at how biased it is. Apparently, you at CBS News believe that America is naiive enough to buy your news coverage "Hook, line, and sinker." I honestly expected more out of your "News Organization."

I and my family have successfully incorporated herbs, whole food vitamins (not fractured) and collodial mineral suppliments into our diet for many years. They are highly effective in detoxifying processes and nutritional support that are essential for good health. No major illnesses have been experienced and minor sickness is quickly remedied. Muscle testing is frequently used to determine compatibility with our bodies, dosage, etc.

Modern agricultural practices strip the majority of our foods from the critically important nutrients that our bodies require.

All is NOT wonderful in the garden!

Here are some true facts that are important to know!

Over 99% of those who say they need pot for medical reasons have nothing wrong with them that pot can fix. They simply bought a script from a Pot Doc so they can make mountains of cash selling drugs and many of the police in Northern California do this too. It's a very sad situation.

Over 70% of all the pot grown ends up in this nations schools because the growers don't know or care where their pot ends up as long as they get their money. Children's lunch money that is. Several growers have told me that the kids are their best clients because the kids can't tell good pot from bad and they pay top dollar.

This is a $38 Billion dollar a year lie.$$$
And our kids are paying for it with their lives, educations and futures.

I believe in natural suppliment because I have seen it work. My mother is a cancer survior. She used natural suppliments in the aid of her recovery and did not take chemo. She has been cancer free for over 26 years. Yes, you have to do your homework natural suppliment are still drug just in there natural state. People don't let the Grovenmet take away our right keep ourselves health, doctor just don't have all the answers. CBS News did a very one sided, unfair story about natural suppliments. No one that has had a life saving experience was interviewed and expert in favor of natural supplliments was not given any time to tell about the benefit of natural suppliments. The whole interview was disappointing.

I've used herbal supplements for years. Yes, they do often help, and without the negative effects as from conventional medication. I've also used blood root without any adverse reactions. I read the label and used it properly. There are warnings about possible reactions. I believe the news information was one sided, saying the least. I had what I was concerned might be the beginning of a less harmful type of skin cancer. I used blood root and the abnormal skin came off and left a pink skin which is now perfectly normal. Just about everyone will have some negative effects for about everything we use. I believe all this is more about money, politics and control than a sincere concern about our use of herbs. The FDA needs to take care of their own problems and stay in their own back yard.

I am shocked at the one sided coverage of this important issue. Herbals and other supplements are surely not the only choice to treat medical problems or build health but, to suggest that they have no value is simply bogus. In my opinion a pharmaceutical company must have been the sponsor of this story and the drug industry would like all of us to just take our daily meds and remain quiet. In the future CBS may want to cover both sides of an issue.

This is not news. This report was inaccurate. In order to be news, you need to check the validity of the items you report. I wont be watching this "show" anymore.

The amount of adverse reactions and deaths caused by the pharamceuticals advertised on CBS Evening News is far greater than those caused by supplements. Why isn't that being reported?

Waking up this morning on my birthday...I look back at 1993 when a "licensed" pain management specialist (western medications) mis-prescribed and over-prescribed for a 3 1/2 year period nearly killed me-LITERALLY!

I am here today with our 2 sons and a very loving husband (who lived through the hell of oversold & over rated pharmaceuticals) to continue with my life - Thanks Goodness to Herbs and Supplements!

Get the facts before slamming the one industry that proves over and over again how the natural aids "SUPPLEMENTS" are keeping people alive-

I was surprised by CBS news report on herbal supplements. CBS reported on only one side of the issue. I've been taking a pharmaceutical grade supplements for three years and have been feeling great. Supplements are not created equal, you must research what you are taking. Those statin drugs I was prescribed only caused aches and pains... diet and supplementation got me back on track to healthy living. CBS reporters need to investigate both sides before reporting if they want to be credible.

Why can't the media leave the vitamins and herbs alone, more people died from what the FDA approve than vitamins, we have taken supplements for years and have never had a problem, because of all the changes in the world we don't get nutrition from the earth like we use to.

There is also 'mounting evidence' that government control is unsafe and ineffective as well. How effective is the control on e-coli in your spinach or your tacos? How 'bout mad cow disease? oooh!, don't create a panic, THAT might be bad for big business!

RichL,
You are of course quite right, this is yet another propoganda piece by Big Pharma. Bearing in mind they have considerable stake holdings in any worthy media company, they dictate to the executive. Big Pharma is becoming very worried by alternative medicines, proven, cheap and cannot be patented. The success rate of Chemotherapy is 5% and costs a fortune, Vitamin B17 costs pennies and works, Vitamin C works, Graviola, Bitter Melon and many other cancer cures are effective but don't ask your Oncologist for them because he is afraid of being shot or at the very least run out of town.
If I could address Nancy Pelosi I would ask her to prosecute these evil people for genocide, what a step toward better health that would be.
HIV, Bird Flu, Aids, all fiction, scare mongering dreampt up to sell poisons for big bucks. Please remember, There 'aint no cash in a cure, Dependency and comfort is big cash, since when did Big Pharma cure anything??????

On whether the report is biased or not.
Interesting to note that on the line graphs following your question:
Do You Think Herbal Supplements Are Generally Helpful?
(All respondents)

Yes
44%
No
33%
That the line for yes is shorter than the line graph for no.
If there weren't pre-formed opinions, by your staff, on the response, why is the graph inversed? An interesting slip.

Get ready for the next big attack and a Ban by the FDA and Big Pharma on a substance called White Gold Powder. This stuff goes back to biblical times and is quite a story, a super conductor which cannot be patented. You may bet your shirt on the fact that Big Pharma use it personally, they are not however going to let you and I have any. The problem they and the crooked FDA have is this very medium, the world wide web. We are all becoming better informed and the truth is finally coming out, there will be a worldwide health revolution.....Soon.

The answer to your question, "Is smoking Pot an Herbal Supplement?". Is no. But. Thousands of drug dealers have jumped on the valid "Herbal Health" band wagon just to cause confusion by saying that marijuana smoke is medicine so they can make literally tens of billions in profits, mostly from our school system. What pot is doing to the educations and health of this nations kids is uncontainable.

The truth is that THC has been available in a very powerful pure pill form for over 35 years now (Marinol) and marijuana smoke contains many of the same carcinogens as cigarette smoke.

A, Herbal medicines has been doing wonders for thousands of years but it needs to be fresh and self dosing is still a bad idea.

B, Smoking organic pot with all of it's molds, rat fancies, dog hair and all the chemicals the growers use is anything but healthy.

Congratulations on a great show. I am responding to your show on Herbs! There is a misnomer within the market place that herbs and synthetic vitamins are some how beneficial to the human body.

Our bodies need nutrients that are alive in organic energy thus vitamins that are man made which make up 97% of the market place are incompatible with human physiology.

Herbs can be beneficial but are most often lacking in enzymes, co-factors and rich in vitamins. We as a society are unhealthy because of the man made chemicals in our food sources and within our environment to include synthetic vitamins. How can a man made chemical product interact with an organic cell, the cell most often views the product as foreign and trys to get it out of the body.

I would like to be interviewed on this subject matter and you may view who I am as well as my company at www.wbyd.com

I find it interesting that your poll features only herbal supplements, but the implication by way of promotional spots, which mentions vitamin C in particular, is aimed at vitamin, mineral and herbal supplements. Looks like a little smoke and mirrors to me. Most of us understand that the AMA would love to have the government control all supplements, even though few doctors understand the subject as well as the informed public. Your features are an indirect aid to that cause! Shame on you.

I am sick to death, of this government, trying to control everything we do. Many of us have taken herbal and vitamin supplements for YEARS. They need to BACK OFF. And those who need to run to the doctor, for every little thing, keep doing that, too. These are our rights, and our choices. They are trying to take that away from us. From ALL of us.

I've seen several posts here that are right on. It's all about money, and they're losing control with the people. They want us under their thumb, so to speak. Stop us from thinking on our own, and educating ourselves with alternatives. Force us to ONLY go to the doctor. After all, they know everything, right?? Wrong.

gigimama28 ...I had the same thing happen to me. Doctor kept telling me I needed blood pressure medication. Started taking it. Kept TELLING him, at HOME, my BP was quite normal. Anyway, under his direction and 'expertise', I took it. Well, I almost died from that medication. And I won't even MENTION, that he over prescribed it. I slowly weaned myself off of it, never went back to him, STILL have a normal BP, like I tried to tell him in the first place. That was 10 years ago.

These people are drug happy. It's all about big money, doctors, pharmaceutical companies, and the lawyers play a part in it, too. As they do in everything.

My father was treated with chemo for cancer. He wasn't that far progressed. He passed away recently, but not from the cancer. From the drugs he was given. They messed up his blood, by giving too high a dose of one particular drug. Otherwise, he would still be here today. And I regret, and cry, each and every day, choosing chemo at ALL, and not taking a natural path. He truly suffered with those drugs they gave him. And they kept pushing and pushing, and if people (he was treated in a huge room with other people) wanted to stop chemo, they really came down on them. Tried to make them feel if they stopped, they'd be gone. Tried to FORCE them into coming. It was horrible. It's all about money.

We don't HAVE to have these harsh drugs.

I watched a show the other day, about a woman who needed hip surgery. She CHOSE to go to another country. They offered her a stay at a resort, plus the surgery, for $6500. Her alternative? Having it here, for $45,000. She said the care was amazing. If she pushed that button, they were there in a second. She said, it was as if, they were camped outside her door. She is back home, and doing great. These countries, Costa Rica and India, are offering these packages to people here. And THEIR doctors, are educated here in the United States. The coverage on this story was funny. News people saying...oh, you need to check into these things before you do anything like this. You could SEE, the pure panic in them. God forbid, we all seek treatment OUTSIDE of the United States! Got news for them, I'll do it, if I need to. Or, are they going to try and stop people from doing that, too??

It's all about our rights and OUR choices. And they are slowly being taken away. What a country, when you work to buy a home, and think you'll be in it forever. It's YOURS. Then along comes eminent domain. And all because some big time developer wants your land, you can lose it. People need to fight this. People need to fight all of these things.

FDA, leave herbal and vitamin supplements ALONE. Because if you don't, we're out here, and there are alot of us, and we're going to fight for our right to take them. And NOT under a doctors supervision. Under our OWN.

I know supplements work and I have so much faith in this that after I was dianosed with severe IR , researched and used suppliments to lose 125lbs, sold my house and invested every last dime into starting a business about educating people about the correct supplements for self use! After 15 months in busisness I've have great success stories and continue to help people on a daily bases. Maybe the question should be asked of Mr. Natureal Causes is how many individuals in this country does he think is healthy. Within the last four weeks I bought life insureance and was told that I am in the 1% Nationwide that have recovered and continue to manage my IR on a healthy level. Thanks to Supplements!

Supplement do work as do other treatments not part of the mainstream. UV light treatment was used and logged into medical journals until the advent of penicillin. Read "Into the Light" a book regarding the use of UV treatment for cancer and other maladies. Very good read.
Do you think the networks are going to endorse those methods that have been proven (UV) when their monies come from drug companies? Just watch the evening news and count the number of drug commercials...
PS- infrared light causes cataracts, not UV.

CBS used "bad journalism," and "sophomoric reporting," "fiction," "spin and muckraking," when it attacked herbal supplements. I've used them for over 10+ years, and they work great. Like most things, they can be abused- even food can be abused as most people know. "Shame on you, CBS for trying to lead your viewers to believe that all supplements are bad" unless they are approved by the FDA. Look at what the FDA has done for us in the past.

Have you forgotten Vioxx and the diet pill that was prescribed in the 90's that caused many heart problem throughout the U.S. These are only two of the FDA approved medicines that basically caused the death of many people throughout the U.S. Guess Mr. Alfonsi forgot to check out all the facts (or maybe he forgot on purpose). The FDA protects the pharmaceutical companies' interest and that's about it.

Almost any of the medication I take is a supplement. CBS and the God awful FDA need to butt out of the American peoples business. Supplements are much safer than what the BIG Pharmaceutials put out. CBS needs to report on the Liberal Media, Radical Liberal Politicans (The Degenacrats), Liberal Judges, Liberals on the Supreme Court. You know, things we all would like to hear the truth on, but our Liberal Media won't report.
