(CBS/AP)  Donald Trump has called Barbara Walters a liar and Rosie O'Donnell a loser. On Wednesday, they both fired back.

"Well, he's at it again," said O'Donnell, referring to a letter written to her by Trump and reported Tuesday by the media. The letter said Walters had told him that working with O'Donnell on ABC's "The View" is like "living in hell."

"That poor, pathetic man," said Walters, drawing whoops of approval from her TV audience.

O'Donnell high-fived Walters and co-hosts Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck. "You know, he just can't — he just can't let go, but we're moving on," Walters said.

The co-hosts didn't mention him by name, referring to Trump as "he" and "that guy."

"The man is obsessed with me, and I'm happy to say his show tanked," O'Donnell said, an apparent reference to the ratings of the latest edition of Trump's NBC reality show, "The Apprentice," which started Sunday and fell short of those from last spring's season premiere.

An e-mail from The Associated Press seeking comment from Trump wasn't immediately answered Wednesday. But the TV show "The Insider" reported that a statement from Trump said: "They didn't even have the courage to mention me by name. It was sad to see Barbara read her statement off a cue card."

In his letter to O'Donnell, Trump said Walters had "lied to both of us."

The letter, which began "Dear Rosie," said that Walters called Trump while she was away on vacation and told him that working with O'Donnell "is like living in hell."

He said Walters had called him from her vacation trying to end the feud and supposedly told him "don't worry, she won't be here for long" and "Donald, never get in the mud with pigs."

Trump added that he saw Walters eating at a restaurant about two months ago and asked how O'Donnell was doing on "The View" to which she sarcastically rolled her eyes and responded, "Donald, do you have to ruin my meal."

Walters said last week she hadn't told Trump she didn't want O'Donnell on the daytime talk show. "Nothing could be further from the truth," she said.

The Rosie-Donald feud began last month after Trump announced that Miss USA Tara Conner would keep her title, which had been in jeopardy because of underage drinking. He owns the pageant.

O'Donnell said his news conference had annoyed her "on a multitude of levels" and that the twice-divorced real estate mogul had no right to be "the moral compass for 20-year-olds in America."

Even now, though, TV psychiatrist Keith Ablow tells CBS News correspondent Michelle Miller he thinks there's a chance to put this all behind them.

"The best way to resolve these things," Ablow says, "is to say, 'I'm sorry. I think I hurt you. ... I lost my cool. I forgot you were a person, too.' "

That said, Ablow called the behavior by both Trump and O'Donnell "kind-of school yard tactics."

I think it's ' Pathetic ' that O'Donnell is bulling a pathetic, senile, old lady ( Walters ) and using her like a puppet on strings. Trump can fight back and can handle that bully ( O'Donnell ). Poor little Walters can't use her FAKE face or FAKE smile or FAKE voice to cover up her lies to Star or O'Donnell or Trump anymore. She really needs to retire herself and the ' View ' and ride off into the sunset.

"It is sad to see how an act of kindeness by Mr. Trump, in trying to help a young woman in distress, set in motion a silly fight between him and Ms. O'Donnell"

I'm sorry, did you say that DT was HELPING a young woman, or DATING a young woman? Hee Hee! 'Cause the rumor is that he was dating her, and then when she started to go out with other boys is when he freaked.

all of this is sad, But for the most part Media is the one that also keeps it going. Donald and ROsie are both loosers, because someone should be grown enough to say enough! But instead they both keep going back & fourth! And America you should stop watching the view because these women are fickle and fouled mouth, and Donald Trump is not anything to look up to either in teaching about good conduct and good business practice! Don't pattern yourself after any of theses so-called icons, they are Pathetic!

It is sad to see how an act of kindeness by Mr. Trump, in trying to help a young woman in distress, set in motion a silly fight between him and Ms. O'Donnell. Nevertheless, there is still time for Mr. Trump to make a wise and diplomatic move, an regain some of the reputation he has lost.

I suspect that Donald Trump harbours that macho fantasy that he will be the man to turn Rosie O'Donnell straight. His balls are turning blue from frustration, that's why he's getting all hot headed & strutting around like a combed over peacock (that's more like P-***).

He most likely fantasises about Barbara Walters, Rosie & himself in a threesome. That can be the only explanation for his obsession.

I remember in elementary school when you didn't want someone to know you liked them you acted like you hated them. Everyone saw through the ruse then, & I see through his ruse now. Donal Trump- grow up & get over yourself. Face it- Rosie wouldn't go straight for you if you were the last man on earth. I know I'd turn lesbian if you were!

I find O'Donnell refreshing and hilarious at every turn. I never watched The View that much until she signed on.

As for the "combover" guy, I suspect he thinks he "is a legend in his own mind".

I'd love to see him emerging from water sometime. That picture would be worth more than he is I suspect.

I really liked how Regis and Kelly have been handling this situation - like they had Trump on their show and must have told him beforehand not to talk about the feud because it's the only show he's been on that he hasn't mentioned it. And then today, apparently Regis asked the rhetorical question of 'what are we going to do about this feud? where is the U.N. when you need them?'

I'm so glad Regis and Kelly have kept out of this - I would hate to end up thinking less of them too if they had gotten dragged into all this ugliness . . .

One thing to note about the "STARS" involved in this is that none of them will ever have to worry about Hemroids....

It's so sad Walters have down graded to such a show.
What is worst she is now caught up in this crazy thing with Rosie and Trump.
What is she thinking! Get out while you can and go back if you can to proper journalism, Barbara Wlaters is getting old and she looks old on tv too! Please ... take walters out before you really spoil the screen on tv around america or the world for that fact.Rosie for one does not deserve to be on tv cause I would never teach my kids to watch her and her outrageous behaviour and loud filthy mouth that she has, too bad we do not get to see the good side of her more often if there is any. Trumps ... is old news and as always ... he needs pretty women beside him cause, that is the only thing that keeps him going on living.

Walters should have just NOT replaced anyone in Stars place. She should have just let the View die in a nice quite death. Now she has a big dirty mouth bully ( O'Donnell ) two nothing ladies (?)that no one could care less what they have to say and an old lady with no brain left ( Walters )To fill out her show. Then as if things aren't bad enough, you have this bully ( O'Donnell ),who by the way was the one that started this whole mess ! Hiding behind her kids crying like a baby !!! Trump never ONCE brought her kids into this mess,SHE did !!! What a lousy mother is that !?!? Now I'm not sticking up for Trump either ! He has a mouth on him too ! But O'Donnell started this whole mess FIRST ! I've only watched the View a few times after O'Donnell started and noticed she still is the bully as she always was ! So I stopped watching. All I see in that show is four women (?) ******** and making fun of other people. I'm sure we all have had enough of that in school. Why would we want to watch it on that show !? Walters does this BIG FAKE face and voice trying to make it look like she cares about people. Walters.... it's VERY bad acting !!! You REALLY need to retire before they fire YOU !!! And if your going to lie to people at least get your stories straight !!!

Man, am I out of touch. I haven't watched television in 13 years (ahhh, you ought to try it). The last time I checked Barbara Walters was supposed to be a pseudo-serious journalist (a show called "20/20," which I assume has also vanished from earthly ken by now) but evidently that is no longer the case?

Enough Already!!,when is EVERYONE going to realize that Rosie and Donald are trying to get higher viewer ratings and that The View is loving this attention by people tuning in to watch the war continue?.Everyone must stop the feeding of the fire by not paying attention and no longer watching The View....they are actually loving it,you are only rising their ratings.Turn off the T.V. and make her go away...please!!

Money can buy a lot of things but it can't buy class, brains or a lock on the old pie hole. The Donald could use all three. What a loser that guy is.

But he just doesn't know when to quit, does he. If he'd just ignored Rosie's comment to begin with, hardly anyone would have noticed. But now he looks like a bigger and bigger fool every day. The truth will out!!!!

I still say this is a bunch of BS! And both of the shows as well as the media should stop feeding into this garbage! Both Rosie and Donald or bad examples of why we are getting targeted from third world countries because of mess like this! Miss USA should have not wanted the crown herself because she is a drunk! Rosie has a , foul mouth and attitude, and DOnald is going out as well, because he cannot even take another persons opinion. He does not have class at all.

Don't we have real news in the world! I am so tired of hearing about the Trump-O'Donnell feud! This is getting to be old news, I think they both need to keep their mouths shut and go on about their business!

Good for Barbara!
Donald clearly has some disturbing issues and because of this getting back to Rosie's children, he really should just stop with this nonsense now.
He, singlehandedly, has put Rosie on top.
He is so into one-upmanship. My 6 year old grandson is better behaved and listens when asked to stop bugging his sister.
