Justin & Cameron Say It's Over
(CBS/AP)
Singer Justin Timberlake and actress Cameron Diaz have broken up.
They have issued a joint statement confirming they've ended their romantic relationship. They say they "have done so mutually and as friends, with continued love and respect for one another." The couple have been dating since 2003.
They say they usually prefer not to comment on the status of their relationship, but they felt the need to do so now because of recent media speculation and inaccurate stories.
Diaz and Timberlake couldn't have been farther apart at the People's Choice awards on Tuesday night.
During the live broadcast, Diaz took the stage to accept her award for favorite leading lady, while Timberlake thanked his fans via satellite from Anaheim, the second stop on his tour, which kicked off Monday.
Neither of them mentioned each other in their acceptance speeches. A giddy Diaz gushed over her fans while Timberlake, who received the award for favorite R&B song, joked about his recent "Saturday Night Live" skit.
2 After the premiere of his new film "Alpha Dog," he was spotted at Social Hollywood talking to screen siren Scarlett Johansson one-on-one for about an hour, People magazine recently reported. The actress will reportedly appear in the new video for his song "What Goes Around ... Comes Around."
Meanwhile, Us Weekly says that Johansson has had her eye on Timberlake for quite some time.
"Scarlett has always liked Justin. They've always had a flirtation — that's why Cameron was threatened by her," a pal of Timberlake's tells the magazine. Us Weekly reports that the singer's decision to cast the 20-year-old in the video pushed his relationship with Diaz to the breaking point.
"(Cameron) could not believe he went behind her back to put her in the video," the pal says. "Cameron was very jealous of Scarlett."
According to USA Today, the singer and his rep were mum about a break-up at the "Alpha Dog" premiere.
Initial talk of a split began with a report from Star magazine that the pair spent the holidays separately: Justin Timberlake at home in Tennessee with family, while Diaz, 34, went skiing in Colorado with hers.
3 "They had been planning to be together in Tennessee with his folks," a source told Star. "But he came out alone and she stayed in L.A."
Sources told Star that Timberlake — who turns 26 on Jan. 31 — instigated the split.
The magazine reports that when the singer partied with friends at a nightclub in Memphis on Dec. 23, he told revelers: "Me and Cameron? We're done." Adding that "the breakup is for keeps!"
One thing is for sure: everything seemed dandy between the pair when she made an appearance on "Saturday Night Live" when was guest host last month.
