(CBS)  Karen Brown has been a correspondent for CBS Newspath, the affiliate news service of CBS News, since December 2006. Her reports covering national and international issues have been featured on CBS affiliates, CBS Mornings News, CBS Evening News weekend editions, The Early Show, and CBSNews.com. Brown also serves as a substitute anchor for CBS Up to the Minute, CBS Morning News, and CBS Money Watch.

Based out of New York, Brown has covered Cuba, the 2008 Presidential Race, The White House, Congress, the United Nations, and Wall St. along with major breaking news stories like the fall of Lehman Bros. and Midwestern floods.

Before moving to New York, Brown was a freelance correspondent for CBS Newspath, in Los Angeles (2005-06), where she covered Hurricane Rita, the Enron Trial, and California fires.

Brown was a correspondent at NBC News Channel in its Burbank bureau (2003-05 and 2001-02) covering, among other stories, the Michael Jackson trial, the Athens Olympics, and the Scott Peterson trial. In between, she was a reporter and fill-in anchor at KNTV San Francisco (2002-03), where she broke numerous parts of the Peterson case. She was a reporter for KNBC-TV Los Angeles (2000-02), a weekend anchor for KVBC-TV Las Vegas (1998-2000) and a reporter and fill-in anchor for KSBY-TV San Luis Obispo, Calif. (1996-98). Prior to that, Brown was a field producer for KNBC-TV (1992-96), where she worked extensively on the O.J. Simpson criminal trial, coordinating production for all coverage at the criminal courts building. Brown began her career as an editorial assistant for KNBC-TV in 1991.

She received an Emmy Award in 1995 for her work with KNBC-TV on the Simpson trial.

Brown grew up in Orange County, Calif. She graduated from the University of California-Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. She lives in New York City with her husband and daughter.
