"Why is it OK that Scientology gets slammed? A bigot is a bigot is a bigot," the former star of "Cheers" and "Fat Actress" tells Ladies' Home Journal in the magazine's January issue.
Alley became a Scientologist after attending the group's Narconon drug rehabilitation program in 1979. Now she credits Scientology - along with Jenny Craig - with helping her lose weight.
"It was like, how do I go from really fat to not only thin - 'cause anybody can make her body thin – but how do you stick to it?," she said. "And how do I rekindle my career and get interested in acting again? And how do I get interested in a man again? For me, Scientology is, 'Let me make some oars and get in the boat and paddle myself across.' That's how I got to the other side."Photos: Kirstie Alley
Alley is filming a movie for Lifetime in January, "And She Was," which she calls a "fun little comedy." She's also planning a network television show, but did not give any details.
The twice-married actress said that since 2000 she's been very "freaked out and very careful about making a bad choice," when it comes to men. Instead, she's spent the majority of the past several years focusing on raising her children, William True, 14, and Lillie Price, 12, whom she adopted with her second husband, actor Parker Stevenson.
Now she feels ready to start dating again, with restrictions.
"... when I find someone who I'm really, really interested in, I am not having sex with that person for at least six months," she said. "I take sex seriously, and if you think you might want to spend the rest of your life with someone, six months is a drop in the bucket."

- Good for her!
It is amazing to me that people feel that they can condemn a person's beliefs when our constitution guarantees our right to freedom of religion.........did y'all forget about that?
Every religion has some beliefs that seem strange to those that are not a part of that religion.......if it is helping her, then good for her! - Reply to this comment
- click - hear that? It's the sound of yet another career turning off.

- Scientology is the religion of money making. The religion of defrauding people with bad promises. Hubbard, its founder, got four years unsuspended jail in France for Fraud and Extortion. He did never appeal, despite having tried to get some "defence" before courts through his co-accused.
The fraud and extortions were 111% scientology linked.

- I avoid anyone who embraces a religion based on a fiction novel. These folks are a few bricks shy of having a full load.
I wonder if abuse of drugs and/or alchohol can also cause some peoples brain to go a little haywire. - Reply to this comment
- Didn't L. Ron Hubbard say something about if you want to make money create a religion.

- Funny how she doesn't give scienotlogy any credit on the TV spots she does for Jenny Crieg. As for anyone who speaks out against scientology being a bigot, look who's talking. LOL
If you want to see the side of scientology she doesn't want you to see go to xenu.net better yet go to xenutv.com and see the members of scientology in action. They have some great video's. - Reply to this comment
- Like everything else, it's a matter of convenience in a modern day world for them. Scientology is much less demanding than other religions. It's a way for non-believers to feel like they belong.

- She says Scientology to her is "Let me make some oars, get in the boat, and paddle myself across the other side." Well I think all religions work that way. You have to have faith, but you still have to do things for yourself. Your body should be an instrument, and faith should be your guide. But I too think Scientology is a crock. These people seem brainwashed to me. They worship a dead humanbeing. I have to say I'm sure Jesus will walk the earth again befor L. Ron Hubbard does!

- p-syrus I'll check that out thanks. I guess it takes all kinds to make the world go round. But, man I enjoy laughing at Scientologist. 1979?? must mean 1999. I think I just lost all respect for Kristy. On a serious note How do people fall for this stuff? I can understand the christian thing were your kind of indoctrinated at birth. But how do go from being a non beleiver to a beleiver? Thier must be a religous gene and I did't get it.
