(CBS)  Britney Spears is thankful for Victoria's Secret and perhaps enjoying her "newfound freedom" a little too much, she says in a new posting on her Web site.

The pop star, who's received some heat for her nights out with Paris Hilton and her penchant for not wearing underwear, posted a holiday message to her fans and talked a bit about the panty situation.

"It's been so long since I've been out on the town with friends. It's also been two years since I've even celebrated my birthday," said Spears, who celebrated her 25th birthday recently with Hilton at L.A.'s Hyde club.

"Every move I make at this point has been magnified more than I expected, and I probably did take my newfound freedom a little too far," she admits.

"Anyway, thank God for Victoria's Secrets' new underwear line! I look forward to a new year, new music and a new me!" she wrote.

"I'm just getting started," she said. "Happy Holidays everyone!"

The New York Post reported yesterday that the Los Angeles Department of Children & Family Services has been trying to set up a meeting with Spears.

"The department has been calling Britney trying to set up a meeting with her, so they can check on (Spears' sons with Kevin Federline, Sean Preston and Jaden James). The calls started after this recent bout of bizarre public behavior," a source told the newspaper.

The Post reports that Spears' family is also worried about her new party lifestyle — and antics with the paparazzi (i.e. being caught in photos minus underwear).

On The Early Show Friday, Katrina Szish, contributing editor of Us Weekly magazine, told co-anchor Hannah Storm, "Britney has always been so good at connecting with her fans directly. She sort of almost invented the celebrity Web site where she directly addresses her fans, almost as if she's writing them a diary. I think what she's trying to do is show her fans that she's still the Britney they love and she's trying to almost be honest with them about what she's going through and what she's doing why she's doing.

"I'm sure she is looking for a little sympathy but, at the same, she's being honest. Think of one of your good girlfriends who's been in a bad marriage finally gets out and, you're allowed to go a little crazy. You sort of want them to be happy. You sort of celebrate their split."

Szish said one member of Spears' new crowd is really raising eyebrows: "I think Britney's parents, in particular, are not happy that she's spending time with Paris. I think a lot of people would agree that it's probably not the best best friend to have in Hollywood.

"Paris is a trouble magnet. Everywhere Paris goes, there's a feud, there's controversy, there's something that happens. So, for Britney to go from K-Fed to Paris is not much of a step up. So, people are not happy with that.

"I really do think that, if Britney continues to do this for months and months and months, it will be a problem. But right now, she's a young mother who has a fulltime nanny, her children have a wonderful grandmother, her mom, Lynn, and I think she's allowed to take it easy a little bit."

Szish added that Spears and her ex, Federline, "got together last week at Britney's Malubu rental and spent two hours together. He came to visit the kids, and supposedly they got along fairly well and actually agreed to try to get the divorce done smoothly and simply.

"Both are filing for sole custody of the children. Right now it's complete speculation as to what will happen with that. Experts say Britney's partying will not have an affect."

Szish speculated that Spears will get her music career back in good shape: "I think she absolutely will. I think 2007 will be a big year for Britney. I think we'll see her change a lot."

Meanwhile, Federline, is busy retooling his image into that of a serious, respectable adult.

A spokesman for Federline's divorce attorney released a statement Wednesday detailing an evening out with the aspiring rapper.

According to the statement, Federline dined out with lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan at a Beverly Hills steakhouse Tuesday — and then had a pleasant chat with the press.

Federline told E! News that he wants the public to know that he is a family man, adding "that is me, that is the truth, that is — in all honesty — that is what it is."

He also said that he sees himself a year from now "making movies" — presumably legitimate feature films — and that he's very happy and moving forward in his career.

All a judge or Britney's attorney has to do is bring up the fact that he didn't and isn't fighting for custody for his first two children to stop his presumption that he'll get his children.

AT THIS POINT I HONESTLY THINK THAT YOU NEED TO CHANGE YOUR RECENT WAYS BECAUSE IT IS NOT YOUR MONEY THAT I AM WORRIED ABOUT. FACE IT BRITNEY THAT PARASITE IS BEHAVING BETTER THAN YOU. HE WANTS YOUR MONEY, A LOT OF IT AND HE WANTS TO SECURE IT BY GETTING YOUR TWO BOYS. WAKE UP GIRL AND FIND BETTER FRIENDS.

To all you Brittany arm-chair critics...MIND YOUR OWN DAM-N BUSINESS - and that goes to Children Services too...unless you are prepared to go the the clubs every night and dogg every mother you find.

Last Veterans Day President Bush stated in a speech that the Congressional Medal of Honor would be awarded to a U.S. Marine from a small town in New York state who threw himself on top of a grenade in Iraq and saved the lives of four fellow Marines at the cost of his own. This got a couple of paragraphs worth of mention for a single day in the media.

However, the TomKat wedding was covered daily for three weeks leading up to his third marriage. Even the death of George Clooney's pet pig(!) was in the news longer that this real hero who gave his life. And now it is Ms. Spears remarks on panties, etc. that gets more written about than a Medal of Honor winner got.

It is beyond pathetic. It is beyond obscene.

God help this country.

I think shes being very immature with the divorce issue. Its almost as if shes trying to prove that she can still go out and party like she use to before the kids.Like Kevin really cares!! Hes got his money. Trust me he is long gone now that hes in the spotlight. He just used her and it doesnt take a rocket science to figure that out!! If she did have on underwear, they probably have skidmarks because she hasnt been home to do any laundry anyways...haha!

Britney's comments & actions prove her to be selfish & immature. She is certainly not mature enough to raise 2 young kids. I pray that their father will be awarded them. She sold herself years & years ago with such a trashy image, & now she is living it. She is irresponsible & cannot possibly be thinking of her kids. If she cared the slightest bit about anyone other than herself, she wouldn't have to clean up her act. It would already be clean.

years and years ago when i was first divorced, i went a little wild with my newfound freedom, too; however, i NEVER forgot to put on my underwear. don't blame this on new freedom, blame this on supidity and being trashy. Lord, those poor little boys.

How many times can you have *** soon you will realize that family and loyalty are more important than how many times you can do it in one night!

Like the old Roman generals had, some of these pop stars need someone to whisper in their ears that all fame is fleeting........

One question.... why would someone be thankful for something they don't even wear?? Britney... the "Thank God for Victoria's Secrets" line didn't help your case any....... Grow up!!!

Would someone please tell her she is washed up and nobody cares anymore??!!??

And what does a new underwear line have to do with not wearing any?

Just go enjoy what's left of your millions. You don't have to prove yourself anymore.
