So now it's official. New York City's board of health has declared trans fats illegal. Restaurants have 18 months to make the switch, and then bang! You're under arrest.
Have the food police gone too far? Or is this good public policy? We'll see, but I have a feeling this is going to turn into a modern day prohibition.
Soon we'll hear from friends about the opening of the first trans fats speak easy. With a password and the right amount of cash, we'll be allowed into a world of decadent indulgence — one where words like heart disease and cholesterol are never mentioned.
Fried chicken and french fries will be controlled by the mob. Possession of a cheeseburger will get you 30 days in the pokey. A milkshake will be a federal offense.
And fat people will be sent away to camps: Razor wire everywhere and tofu for lunch.
You laugh … just wait.
