Celeb Wedding Over; Bracciano, Italy, Back To Normal

(CBS/AP)  After exchanging vows before a Scientology minister Saturday, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes engaged in a "never-ending kiss," according to guests who attended the wedding outside Rome.

That kiss could be seen as a sweet gesture or as a reminder of the hyper-love they have openly displayed since they first announced their relationship in April 2005 in Rome. Just a month later, Cruise was hopping on Oprah Winfrey's couch.

"They had a very long kiss," producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who attended the wedding, told The Early Show co-anchor Hannah Storm. "The highlight was at the end of the whole ceremony. Everybody went outside this beautiful castle and all of a sudden these fireworks went off from all around the castle ... Just amazing. They are both so happy and so into each other. It was a pleasure to be there."

Most of the guests left the country the next day without offering comment or gossip, leaving the show-business and tabloid press to speculate on a three-minute kiss that one paper dubbed "Top Gum" and claims the service was a recruiting drive for Scientology.

Despite all the hype surrounding it, the wedding was actually just a party. Cruise and Holmes had already tied the knot in a civil ceremony in California because Scientology rites aren't recognized in Italy, reports CBS correspondent Allen Pizzey.

The celebrities swept into the castle in darkened vans so onlookers could not be sure who was in attendance. The mood stayed festive and calm so the paramilitary carabinieri drafted for crowd control had nothing to do and neither did the extra civil defense workers. The city council closed the town center to traffic and even dipped into local funds to compensate the castle souvenir stand owner who had to shut down for the day.

But hours after the celebrity affair, the small Italian town of Bracciano went back to its normal peaceful rhythm. The town welcomed the celebrity couple and their famous friends, yet the couple didn't even bother to come out and give the locals a wave.

It's such a shame how a happy event for 2 people should become so public. I personally believe this marriage won't be a happy one since she's being controlled by an egotistical man. When the chips fall, I hope she is strong enough to stand on her own two feet.

Three things that I noticed about TomCat's "official wedding portrait": 1. Katie is taller than Tom...a LOT taller. In this photo, they are the same height. So either he's standing on 4 or 5 phonebooks, or she's kneeling. 2. Notice their hands: Tom has a deathgrip on her hand, and her hand is clenched in a very tight fist. 3. Your wedding day is supposed to be the happiest day of your life. Her smile looks forced, and his "smile" (or whatever that look is on his face) looks as empty as his eyes.
To me, those are all affirmations of his over-bearing, narrowminded pretentiousness. The poor girl. I feel sorry for her.

Inspired, giggle. I tried to get someone to snap to that yesterday and no one would. Was it Gary Cooper that had to stand on a milk crate in some scenes because he was so short? Anyway, the mental picture of Tom Cruise standing on a crate for a three-minute kiss has me laughing for sure. Ewwww!

I would like to say that nobody has mentioned this Scientology thing much. Listen to this.. Science didn't create us, we don't take our breaths each second thru scientology. It is sad that the world has removed God from everything. He is the foundation of marriage! Not Science! The fact is the gift of science came from God putting wisdom into man. I feel sad in my heart for these two and many more like them. It is our mission on earth to share what we know about the love of Jesus to ***,scientologist, and others who are living in dark places.
