(AP)  Katie Holmes wore a fitted, off-the-shoulder ivory silk bridal gown with a train by popular Hollywood designer Giorgio Armani when she married Tom Cruise on Saturday in a medieval castle near Rome.

The dress was adorned in Valenciennes lace and Swarovski beaded crystal embroidery, featuring a delicate crinoline frill at the shoulders and a silk soleil border around the hem, the couple's publicists said in a statement. She wore an ivory tulle floor length veil and ivory silk shoes.

The bride carried a bouquet of flowers made by Armani, including calla lilies wrapped in leaves of galax and steelgrass.

For the wedding reception, Holmes changed into an asymmetric champagne Giorgio Armani Prive evening dress of silk organza decorated in Swarovski crystal beads.

The 72-year-old designer also dressed the groom, the wedding party and immediate family.

Cruise wore a single-breasted navy blue Armani handmade tuxedo, a matching four-button vest and an ivory silk French collar shirt made of the same fabric as the bride's gown.

The blue-eyed designer with white hair and a perennial tan gained popularity around the world after inventing the jacket with no lining in the 1970s.

His niece Roberta was the first guest to arrive for Saturday's wedding ceremony.

The wedding rings were made by Cartier and are white gold with diamonds.

I hope they live happily ever after. She is lovely and he is handsome and both are very nice and intelligent people. They *were* married in LA prior to the Italian celebration. They wanted privacy, obviously!

What is with Katie's mullet hair style? She has a short pixie fringe (bangs) & long hair! That's a mullet, right?! Bad choice, Girl!
Mullet and Armani should not be spoken in the same breath....
Forget wedding of the year... that's "the" biggest fashion feux paux of the year!

it's called a "marriage license." everyone gets one days before the ceremony, then the licensed minister (or legal celebrant)signs the doc after the "I dos."

guess you've never been through that, Jemma5?

anyway, who cares if the doc was signed beforehand? It's all about the ceremony, the dress, the candles, the baby ...

Jemma,

They are legally married and were before this ceremony. So, IF they ever get divorced, it will need to be for real. And why would it need to have been mentioned before? That was only a legality. This ceremony is what mattered to them.

How are they married? They are NOT the Cruises nor is she Mrs. Cruise. They filed no papers for a legal marriage.

And all of a sudden I'm reading they had "it" officially taken care of in LA before they left? Why wasn't this mentioned before hand? And WHAT was officially taken care of? Marriage was never mentioned.

I guess they'll have an officially taken care of pretend divorce. What a joke! Non celebs have to legally wed to be married. These two just SAY they are and I guess all the gossip rags THINK they are. PULEEZE!
