'Volver' Returns Cruz To The Spotlight

The Oscar buzz has already begun for Penelope Cruz's performance in the new movie "Volver." She could be the first actress from Spain ever nominated for an Academy Award.

Cruz stopped by The Early Show to talk about the movie and the praise it has been receiving.

Cruz said that the popularity of "Volver" has been overwhelming.

"When you love a movie so much, and the audience also loves it, and the critics also love it and everyone agrees, that doesn't happen," she told Harry Smith. "It's rare. I have done 35 moves, and I have only been in a few situations where the players were great and people are feeling things, and it's two hours of their life that probably they will remember. It's a very magical thing."

"Volver" is also special for the Spanish beauty because the working-class setting of the movie reflects her own childhood.

"My parents had to work very hard to raise the three of us," Cruz said about her own family. "So I know that social class very well and I identify with this woman, even if my life hasn't been as tough as hers, because my character goes through very traumatic events that could have destroyed anybody. It doesn't happen to her because she's an amazing force of nature. I love these women, I know many women like this."
