Arnold Jabs Bush On Global Warming

(CBS/AP)  Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who recently signed a sweeping law to cut greenhouse gas emissions in California, complained in a letter to President Bush that there is no coherent federal policy to stop global warming.

The Republican governor wrote that the state's request for a federal waiver to set vehicle emissions standards has been "ignored with no explanation" despite an earlier letter from the governor to Mr. Bush.

"Before a decision is made on the waiver request, EPA will issue a notice and hold a hearing to take public comment," Environmental Protection Agency spokesman John Millett told The Associated Press on Tuesday. He said the waiver request was under review.

Schwarzenegger, up for re-election, has taken several jabs at fellow Republicans in Washington over environmental policy in recent weeks. He calls the fight against global warming one of the most important issues of modern times.

At a recent campaign stop in San Diego, Schwarzenegger boasted of the steps he had taken to fight global warning and cut reliance on Mideast oil by promoting alternative energy.

"The sad story is that, nationally, we don't have great leadership on that," he said.

California's efforts on global warming have been in the spotlight since Schwarzenegger and the state's Democrats reached an accord in August on legislation to cut greenhouse gases.

The measure imposes a first-in-the-nation emissions cap on utilities, refineries and manufacturing plants in a bid to curb the gases that scientists blame for warming the Earth.

When asked by "Tonight Show" host Jay Leno about television campaign ads attempting to link Schwarzenegger to President Bush, the star of the "Terminator" films mocked the notion.

"To link me to George Bush is like linking me to an Oscar," said the governor, who has never won — nor even been nominated for — acting's most prestigious award.

I cover global warming and clean air issues at www.iwantcleanair.com

Arnold has actually been a strong leader on these issues. He is one of several Republican Governors and Mayors who see the threat and acknowledge the need for action.

Unfortunately, the Republican leadership in Congress have been nothing more than lap-dogs for Bush and Cheney.

Arnold becoming president is a non-issue. The Constitution specifically bars non-natives from that office.

Which in a way is too bad. He's obviously more intelligent than Bush, and unlike George W, he can evaluate what he's doing, see that it isn't working, and try something different.

Cows bad! Cars bad! But people love to drive their cars to buy the cows to eat them! mmmm...

Everyone should see the movie WHO KILLED THE ELECTRIC CAR? California had progressiveness in mind when the electric car was first sold there. But ooops! There's more profit in oil and parts for the oil and auto industry so why promote an electric car they can't make money off??? GM pried every electric car out of the hands of leasees (there was NO option to buy) and shredded every single electric car...The technology has been here for years we just have to thank the spinless cowards and pirateers (government, auto/oil industry, complacent Americans)who junked it for ozone depleting resources...way to go psychokillers!

California already sets vehicle emission standards. We have the toughest standards in the world. What Arnold and the democrats want to do is control gas milage. They tried this before but the auto industry fought back and won. Now they are suing the auto manufacturers for green house emissions(CO2). What a joke. Why didn't they get on the ball a decade ago and start an ethanol push? Why don't they give us better public transportation. We know they got the money. We see what the take from us. We pay property tax, sales tax, income tax, road tax, Taxes on the road tax. Vehicle registration fees (mine were $250 for one year and I drive a Ford) and Utility Taxes. This is all a scam. It is a way for the politicians to say look Im doing something Im gonna get these guys from outta state. While hiding there record. We have had a democratic legislature in california forever. If theres a problem its there fault for not fixing it decades ago. We have millions of cows that *** methane gas. Methane is twenty times worse than co2. Again they are going after outta staters. Not the local farmer that contributes to there campaign war chest. I don't know how farmers in other states are doing but the ones in California are making a killing. I always hate it when they complain about not making any money yet there out checking water in a brand new cadilac and living in a 15,000 sqr foot house. Poor farmers.
