Israeli Air Strike Kills Teenage Girl

(AP)  Israeli air strikes on a house in the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah early Wednesday killed a 14-year-old girl and wounded seven other people, hospital officials said.

The attack targeted the house of Sammy al Shaer, a weapons dealer, witnesses said. The army called al Shaer 15 minutes before the initial raid and told him to clear out of the house, which he did, witnesses said.

There were no major injuries in the initial strike, which leveled the house. However, as children gathered to look at the rubble, a second air strike hit the house, killing a 14-year-old girl and wounding seven other children, hospital officials said.

The Israeli army said it had attacked a house used as cover to dig a weapons smuggling tunnel under the border with Egypt.

On Tuesday, Palestinian security forces discovered two underground tunnels along the Gaza-Egypt border that they suspected were dug to smuggle weapons and other contraband. One of the tunnels, dug 27 yards underground, reached Egypt. Another was under construction and had not yet crossed the border, security officials said.

Since Israel pulled out of Gaza last year, the smuggling of weapons into the volatile coastal strip has increased considerably, the Israeli military says.

Hmmmm...Israel has a bad reputation...I just cant put my finger on it though...why is that???yep beats me every time. Clearly there was no other option available, yes 7 children must pay a visit to hospital, and of course at least 1 should die, yes, it is unfortunate, and they do regret the loss of innocent life.groovy, well thats it then folks, everything is settled, they've said sorry for killing your daughter and sister, what more do you want.

What are you all talking about, Israel was acting in self-defense, surely??No....are you sure?? Israel always acts in self-defense, to even dare to think that Israel was not doing this in self-defense would be a travesty of the highest proportions.

Thats right, weapons dealer, underground tunnels from Egypt...So they carried out a logical solution, blow up the children...self-defence..of course...undeniably so. Yes there were no other options, not even too send troops into the house to get the weapons dealer, that would have been uneffective, children, yes unfortunate, was it worth it? mission accomplished. Yet Ahhhh good, anoher fine day at the office.

I think it is more important that the 14 year old girl was killed. "ShutupMurtha" must not love children to think destroying a tunnel and house is more important that the fact that they killed a girl and wounded seven other children. The real pity is that the house was already destroyed when the second attack killed the girl and injured seven other children. "Injured" includes blindness, amputations, brain damage, breaking ear drums, crippling and disfigurement.

And the Israelis wonder why they don't have peace. Now with the death of this girl all her relatives will one day in one way or another support an organization that is going to attack Israel.

Ok....why is this on a "respectable" news station? Why dont you guys focus on more important stories? That is unfortunate that she died in this attack, but this is a dumb story to have on the front page of the CBS website? It should say an Israeli air strike destroyed TERRORIST WEAPONS SMUGGLING ROUTE! This is blatent anti-israel propaganda by the ASSOCIATED PRESS. The MAIN story should not be that a 14 year old girl dies, it should be that the ISRAELIS are making progress on the war on TERROR, or is that to OPTIMISTIC FOR THE NEWS TODAY..
