20 Hurt In Fung Wah Bus Crash
(CBS/AP)
State police say 20 people have been taken to area hospitals after a tour bus rolled over Tuesday afternoon in Auburn, Mass.
Preliminary investigations reveal that speed was a factor in the accident, reports CBS affiliate WBZ-TV in Boston.
Those injured were taken to UMass Medical Center for treatment of broken bones, bumps and bruises, reports WBZ-TV. The bus was run by Fung Wah, a budget bus service that transports passengers from Boston to New York for about $15 each way, the station reports.
There have been concerns about Fung Wah's safety record in the past, reports the Pittsburg Post Gazette. In 2005, two of its buses caught fire on the road, and its federal safety ratings were low enough to prompt U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., to call for an investigation.
The accident occurred at around 2 p.m. Tuesday on the Exit 7 off-ramp from Route 290. The ramp was closed.
State Police Sgt. Scott Range says the bus involved can carry 50 to 60 people, but it's not known how many were on board at the time.
