(CBS)  Cruise's ex-girlfriend Penelope Cruz, and friends Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith all have spoken to the media about their visits with Suri.

Suri is "gorgeous," Pinkett Smith told People magazine in July.
"She's one of the sweetest babies I've ever met in my life, She's an absolute beauty, and she's Daddy's little girl."

The magazine reported that the couple visited Suri twice, both times at Cruise and Holmes' Beverly Hills mansion.

"She's beautiful and they're very happy and they need to be left alone," Pinkett Smith told the magazine. "She's the cutest little baby. She's got a head full of black, beautiful hair."

Cruz, who dated Cruise from 2001 to 2004, declined to offer details of her meeting with Suri this summer, but praised her as a special baby.

"She's really beautiful. She's one of the most beautiful babies I've ever seen," the 32-year-old actress said. Cruz was in London Thursday night to attend the British premiere of her new film, "Volver."

It seems people will do anything for a look at today's celebrity babies. At Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum in New York, a wax statue of Pitt and Jolie's daughter, Shiloh, was a popular site for tourists.

The "Where's Suri?" debate even became fodder for the morning shows. Katrina Szish, a contributing editor for Us Weekly magazine, appeared on The Early Show in July for a "TomKat Chat."

Us Weekly's Web site was equipped with a "Countdown Clock," calculating how many days, hours, minutes and seconds it has been since Suri was born without the public seeing her.

"I don't think we're going to be seeing her any time soon," Szish told co-anchor Renee Syler at the time. "I think the clock is going to keep ticking away. I don't guess we'll see her before she is 1 year old."

That prediction would be in line with Cruise's Scientology beliefs, which call for keeping children safely removed from outside influences. It was several years before photos were made available of Isabella and Connor, the two children who were adopted by Cruise and his ex-wife, actress Nicole Kidman.

"It's not out of character for Tom to be very protective of his children," Szish said, acknowledging the public's hunger to see the baby.

"Especially with the TomKat situation," she added. "His courtship of Katie Holmes was so public, engagement so public, pregnancy so public. They really did make us hungry, and now they're not … following through on that. That's what makes this one extra delicious. We're just waiting to see that baby."

Well, the wait is finally over.
