It's A 'Material' World For The Duffs

(CBS)  Two famous sisters, Hilary and Haylie Duff, are teaming up on the big screen for the first time in the upcoming movie, "Material Girls."

They play the daughters of a cosmetics giant who have to find their way back to the top after losing their fortune and Hollywood status in a corporate scandal.

On The Early Show plaza Friday, Haylie told Tracy Smith that doing a movie involving red carpets and the Hollywood scene "wasn't something that was appealing. It was just something we thought was funny, and we thought we'd have a good time doing it and playing girls like that."

Hilary told Smith the glitz of the red carpet can be trying.

"There are flashes going off in your face and you are dizzy and people are screaming at you and you are doing interview after interview after interview and, normally, answering the same questions, and you're just like, 'I'd rather be at home right now,' " Hilary said. "But sometimes, it is very exciting and it's a good time, especially when we get to do it together, and it makes it much easier and fun."

And fun was very much in evidence, they said, as they made the movie.

"Just working together in general is special for us because from the time we were little kids we had always wanted to do a movie together," Haylie said. "That was what was kind of surreal and special for us. We had great people in the movie, too, and that made everything fun, as well."

Hilary said she felt like she was never alone because Haylie was there.

"It's much easier to work when you have a sibling there for moral support and for advice," Hilary said. "We would give each other advice on the set and goof off and have fun, be stupid like we normally are together, and it makes the time go by really fast and keeps us entertained."

They confirmed their mom's description of Haylie, the older of the two, as being more of a free spirit while Hilary tends to be more grounded.

"She's very responsible, for being the younger sister, especially," Haylie said.

"I'm a little bit more of a freak about being on time or scheduling," Hilary agreed. "I think it's just because, at a young age, I've been on such a schedule that it's just in me, and Haylie is like, 'Oh, we'll get to it. ' "

In the movie, they do Madonna's old song, "Material Girl," but say they didn't even think of trying to outdo her.

As Haylie put it: "It's Madonna. It's a song we grew up listening to, so we didn't want to change it too much from the original melody and stuff like that."
