Tragedy On Jennifer Garner Film Set

Assistant Propmaster Fatally Injured While Working On Location Of 'The Kingdom'

(CBS/AP)  An assistant propmaster was fatally injured on the set of a movie starring Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Garner.

The accident occurred on the film location for "The Kingdom," a thriller set in the Middle East. Part of the film is being shot in the far eastern part of metropolitan Phoenix on the Loop 202 Freeway.

Just after shooting ended Saturday, 25-year-old Nick Papac of Los Angeles was driving an all-terrain vehicle on the freeway, which has been closed to the public. He crashed the golf-cart-like vehicle into a sport utility vehicle carrying the director of the film, according to a press release from officials with the movie.

After paramedics with Universal Pictures/Forward Pass attended to Papac, he was airlifted to a local hospital, where he died a few hours later from severe head injuries.

No one else was injured in the crash.

Papac's father, longtime Hollywood propmaster Mike Papac, flew to Arizona, and was with his son at the time of his death.

"It is with profound sadness that we confirm Nick's passing," said director Peter Berg at a gathering of the film crew Sunday morning. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this time."

None of the film's stars, who also include Jason Bateman and Chris Cooper, were on the set at the time of the accident.

Filming of the movie was suspended on Sunday and will resume on Wednesday.

This has not been an easy shoot for Garner, who went to a local hospital after being overcome by the desert heat on Aug. 4.

"Jennifer wasn't feeling well after working all day Friday (Aug. 4) in the Arizona heat, went to the hospital and was released the next morning," a representative for Garner told "Access Hollywood" in a statement. "She is back on set and healthy."

Principal photography is scheduled to conclude on location in Arizona around Oct. 1.
