The Early Show's "Great American Vacation" recipients and stories from our road trip

(CBS)  The good people of Baton Rouge, La., opened their hearts and homes after Hurricane Katrina, and many people from New Orleans who lost everything have resettled here.

"When I heard that this 'Great American Vacation' was going to be awarded to someone in Baton Rouge relative to Katrina, I couldn't think of anyone except Becky. And, of course, when I think of Becky, I think of Keith," Lee Pittman told The Early Show's Dave Price. "They put in so many hours doing so much for so many people. They are just the most deserving couple in the state."

On Wednesday, The Early Show stopped in Baton Rouge to surprise Becky and Keith Frey with a "Great American Vacation."

Pittman says that while Becky was getting friends and family out of harm's way and organizing clothing drives, she was also busy doing her real job placing LSU Medical Center interns and residents in other hospitals and finding them places to live.

Lee Pittman talks about vacation recipients Becky and Keith Frey.

The couple lost their home and resettled in Baton Rouge. Their honeymoon plans were washed away by the storm.

To say thanks for all they do for others, Fairmont Hotels has arranged a romantic California getaway.

The Freys will spend five days and four nights at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn and Spa, in the heart of Sonoma's wine country.

They'll receive spa treatments at the 40,000-square-foot European spa or two rounds of golf at the Sonoma Golf Club. A candlelight dinner at Sante, the resort's restaurant, a tasting at a local Sonoma winery, limo service to and from the airport, and a rental car to sightsee along the magnificent Pacific coast.

There's also three days of formula racing tickets and a "techniques of racing" class at Jim Russell's Racing School.
