Kidman's Love, Past And Present
Wedding bells are slated to ring for actress Nicole Kidman and country star Keith Urban this weekend in their native Australia.
People magazine editor at large and The Early Show contributor Jess Cagle says Kidman, who's always kept her private life private, is being very public about the upcoming nuptials for a reason.
"I think," he told co-anchor Hannah Storm, "that part of it was a way of feeding the beast. Especially in Australia, Nicole Kidman is really, really hounded by the paparazzi. Plus, I think word was getting out that a marriage was coming soon and then she was going to Sydney, so everyone was suspicious.
"I think she's releasing bits of information at a time to kind of feed the beast. She has a great relationship with all the paparazzi camped outside her house. She sent beer and water a few days ago. They sang 'Happy Birthday' to her. So she seems to be having a good time with them."
Kidman was quoted in a recent interview as saying she still loves ex-husband Tom Cruise, but Cagle didn't put much stock in that.
"I've interviewed both of them," Cagle said, "and over the years, both have said, 'I still love Nicole' or 'I still love Tom.' They have kids together. But I don't know that they're in love. But they love each other. I think that's all that means."
Their children, Isabella and Connor, along with her friends, Hugh Jackman and Naomi Watts, are expected to be at the wedding, Cagle said. Russell Crowe may attend, too.
Cagle added that Kidman and Urban are likely to make their home in Nashville, but, "I think she's got a place in New York. She's got a place in Sydney. I think they will be everywhere. … I would be surprised if they spent a lot of time in L.A., actually. She doesn't spend much time there."
As for widespread reports of a prenuptial agreement, Cagle said he hasn't confirmed that but he would be "shocked if there was not a prenup. And I would also be shocked if all the information about the prenup is correct. There's incredible detail about this prenup out there!"
