The Early Show 2006 Road Trip! We traveled the country giving away dream vacations! See where we've been and who got surprise getaways.
Thanks to a letter from his wife to The Early Show, Rick Reger heard his name called by Dave Price while riding the carousel at the Mall of America in Bloomington.
Reger runs a farm with his brother just outside the Twin Cities and works a second job at night to "keep things going on the farm," often working 20 hours a day. Any vacation or downtime is spent working on the farm, according to his wife.
"I hate to see my husband work so and not enjoy life," Lisa Reger wrote. "I know the farm means a great deal to Rick, and my husband means a great deal to me."
Lisa even tricked her husband to get him away from the farm for The Early Show surprise, having told him she won a Father's Day radio contest with a day's play at the amusement area of the mall for the kids.
"I figured I'll take a day off and go down because I've never been here before and have a little fun," Reger said.
More fun is on the way as the family is headed to Scottsdale, Ariz., for a five-day, four-night stay at the beautiful Fairmont Scottsdale Princess Resort.
This busy family will have plenty to do in the desert with five beautiful pools, the Willow Stream Spa, breakfast every day and their choice of a Jeep or hot-air balloon ride in the desert.
Domestic airfare is provided by American Airlines, the official airline partner of the "Great American Vacation."
But wait … there's more! BP, the same folks who are fueling our "Great American Vacation" Winnebagos, is giving Reger a summer's worth of fuel to use toward Amoco fuel purchases made at his local BP.
Who will be the next recipient of a surprise getaway?
Find out Friday, June 23, when Dave Price and one of two Early Show Winnebagos stops in Fargo, N.D. Come out and see Dave at the Fargo Air Museum!
Check out our map: if you live in one if the cities we're visiting, tell us about the one thing we just have to see and about someone there who's deserving of a "Great American Vacation."
