(CBS) "Boston Rob" Mariano stepped to the plate and tried to come to the rescue of a Little League team in Middlebury, Ind. that needed more than a few pointers.

The reality show star, who appeared in both "Survivor" and "The Amazing Race," responded to a letter written by the team's assistant coach.

Along the way, he showed the boys the right way to go about their business between the white lines. He also took advantage of his position to spread his love of his hometown Red Sox and rub it in that the Sox beat their fierce rivals, the New York Yankees, in the 2004 American League Championship Series before winning the World Series by sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals.

But did Rob hit a home run for the Little Leaguers? Did his coaching efforts pay off? Or did he strike out?
