Receive Breaking News On Your Mobile Phone

(CBS)  Now Free. The CBS Corporation offers "CBS News to Go", the first subscription services that send news and entertainment alerts with video clips to mobile phones. Subscribers will receive up to five alerts daily and have the option to read text and, if their mobile phone allows, see matching pictures and video.

"This move underscores our strategy of offering best-in-class content on as many platforms as possible while seeking out new revenue streams."

How does it work?
At first, CBS News to Go will send subscribers up to five alerts a day, and the plan is to allow people to customize the alerts to their interests. An alert service tied to CBS Sports is also in the works.

Is there a fee?
CBS News to Go service is free, although standard message fees may apply. Alerts from CBS SportsLine are also available.

A service called E.T. to Go, focusing on entertainment news built off the show "Entertainment Tonight," is also available. Entertainment Tonight is produced by Paramount Television, another division of CBS.

Do I need a special cell phone?
CBS alerts will be available for all mobile phone models that are capable of instant text messaging. Picture and video may vary based on your provider.

You will receive the media-richest quality your cell phone can display. The ability to see pictures and videos will depend on which phone you have. This service is currently only available to customers of Verizon, Cingular, T-Mobile, Sprint, Boost and Nextel.
