Radio Host Nabbed In Wife's Death

(CBS)  A Missouri radio talk show host is behind bars, charged with murdering his wife in Massachusetts.

Throughout the summer of 2004, reports Teri Adler of CBS station WBZ-TV in Boston, Julie Keown was telling her doctors she was sick.

"She demonstrated nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and a rash on her leg for which doctors could not find a particular source," says Middlesex County, Mass., District Attorney Martha Coakley.

In September 2004, the 31-year-old Keown lapsed into a coma and died.

More than a year later, her husband, James Keown, is charged with poisoning her while the couple lived in a Waltham, Mass., apartment.

James was arrested in Missouri, where he was working as a radio talk show host. He was taken into custody during a commercial break.

Investigators say James used ethylene glycol, an ingredient in antifreeze, to poison his wife.

"The method by which he administered this was through Gatorade," Coakley says.

The Missouri couple moved to Massachusetts eight months before Julie's death.

A neighbor says she "never, ever saw them leave the house. (It was) very strange."

Police say James told family members he came to Massachusetts to attend Harvard Business School, but that was a lie. It's believed, Adler says, that James moved Julie away from her family with the intent of killing her.

Neighbors who saw the young couple said something wasn't right.

"She was the reticent one, and he was the one who, sort of, did the talking," says Betsy Kimball, a former neighbor. "And so you'd think if (the poisoning) was something that happened over time, slowly, she wasn't talking because she wasn't feeling well."

Investigators say James poisoned Julie because he needed the insurance money.

James should be back in Massachusetts later this week to face a murder charge.
