Calling All Jazz Fans

This column was written by CBS News Early Show co-anchor Harry Smith.
I subscribe to the notion that jazz is one of the only truly American art forms. So when I heard that tapes of a 1957 Carnegie Hall concert with Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane together in a quartet had been unearthed I was gleeful with anticipation. It's a little digging up the Dead Sea scrolls and Rosetta Stone with the same shovel.

It's all there man. Monk at his mad genius best; a lyrical swingin' Coltrane; a gorgeous rhythm section of Ahmed Abdul Malik and Shadow Wilson.
