Here's a closer look at the woman who became popular as a singer and then a TV star.

(CBS/AP)  Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey are yet again denying rumors that they have split up.

A statement issued by their representatives says they have not separated and "rumors to the contrary are simply not true."

People magazine senior editor Jess Cagle says, "I think we have to be very careful with Nick and Jessica because marriages are very organic things."

Cagle, who is also The Early Show entertainment contributor, points out to co-anchor Rene Syler, "The marriage is not over yet. What's happening in the marriage? I'm not sure. She's not wearing her ring. We know that."

Rumors have dogged Simpson and Lachey for the past year about the stability of their marriage. Magazines have been running photos of Simpson with and without her wedding ring.

Us Weekly is reporting Simpson and Lachey split up over the weekend. It does not name its source. Spokesman Alex Dudley says the magazine is standing by its story.

But Cagle says, "These are a young couple. They're both beautiful. They're both filthy rich. They're both very young. I think those circumstances on marriage is very, very tough. They are followed every week like a character in a soap opera, but they're not. They're real. And right now, they're still together."

The couple will celebrate their third anniversary on Oct. 26.
