The Rules Of Good Sportsmanship

(CBS)  The rules of good sportsmanship can easily go by the wayside with parents yelling on the sidelines, coaches trying to coach, and kids trying their best to win.

In "The Family Circle" series, The Early Show takes a look at the best way for parents to teach their kids good sportsmanship.

Jill Friedland's daughter, 13-year-old Kasey, plays competitive soccer on three teams in New Jersey. And the two have seen kids and parents at their best and worst at their matches.

They visit The Early Show Friday morning to share their experience.

Terry Hanratty, the former quarterback for Notre Dame, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, will also offer some tips. He spends time coaching boys and girls in baseball, softball and basketball.

"It's easy to win," Hanratty says. "You have to teach a kid how to win and lose. When they lose, you have to find a positive in the situation. These kids need to know that they will get better. The parent should be very supportive. The kid gave his all. If you can look in the mirror and say, 'I did the best job I could,' then that is important."
