Ribs, Collarbone, Hand Broken In Birthday Party Accident

(CBS/AP)  Madonna's 47th birthday celebration was marred when she suffered several broken bones in a horse riding accident at her country home outside London, her publicist said.

The superstar was hospitalized with three cracked ribs, a broken collarbone and a broken hand, according to spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg.

The accident occurred Tuesday at Ashcombe House, her estate outside of London.

Madonna was once again living out her lyrics, reports CBS News Correspondent Mark Phillips. In her 2003 song "Easy Ride," she sang, "I want the good life, but I don't want an easy ride." She seemed to get just that.

Madonna and an assistant were horseback riding, when Madonna, on a new horse she wasn't accustomed to riding, took a tumble. Her children, Rocco and Lourdes, were at the home but were not with their mother at the time, according to Rosenberg.

"The whole family was out in the country, celebrating her birthday," Rosenberg said.

Her husband, director Guy Ritchie, took Madonna to the hospital, where she was treated and then released.

Rosenberg says the pop star is walking and talking, but is unlikely to be "hanging from a disco ball" anytime soon.

Disco is nonetheless next up on Madonna's professional calendar, with "Confessions on a Dancefloor" - dance music in a style she calls "future disco" - due out in November.

Rosenberg says horseback riding is a relatively new hobby for Madonna, who has embraced life in England and has been riding for four or five months.
