Meteor Shower Visible Overnight
(AP)
If you can stay up late enough tonight -- or get up early enough tomorrow morning -- a major meteor shower will be visible. And you won't need a telescope to see it.
The Perseid meteor shower, emanating in the northeast sky, comes around every year. It's one of six major meteor showers per year.
The two-week shower gets its name from the constellation Perseus, because the meteors appear to emanate from a point within Perseus.
Viewers may be able to see more than 60 meteors per hour between midnight and dawn away from city lights.
You should find a dark site with a wide view of the sky, lie back on a reclining chair and gaze straight up.
