Snoop Snubbed By Harvard
(CBS/AP)
Snoop Dogg won't be going to Harvard.
Nothing to do with his SATs or GPA. Instead, the university's Undergraduate Council has reversed plans to have the rap star visit for a show next month.
Some Harvard students had objected to the appearance, citing lyrics on Snoop Dogg's latest album about slapping women to keep them under control.
In "R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece," the song "Can You Control Yo Hoe" includes the line "If she won't do what you say, why aren't you slapping her?"
But a short statement by the council makes no mention of that. It attributes the dis-invitation to financial considerations and unavoidable obstacles.
Snoop Dogg is consider the embodiment of 1990s gangsta rap, Calvin Broadus was born Oct. 20, 1972, in Long Beach, Calif. He first came to national attention for his work on Dr. Dre's theme song for the film "Deep Cover" and Dre's first solo albums. Dogg's own solo album, "Doggystyle," came out in November 1993 and was the first debut album to enter the charts at No. 1.
