Hilary Duff: Raising Her Voice

17-Year-Old A Success In Movies, TV, Pop

(CBS)  Hilary Duff, the teen movie and pop star who broke through with the Disney TV series "Lizzie McGuire," has released a rock CD to follow up her pop debut "Metamorphosis," which sold 4 million copies.

She had more say to The Early Show co-anchor Hannah Storm about how this self-titled CD gained it's rock sound, and how she got to write some of the songs with her sister. She says it is a reflection of what she has been going through over the last year. "People talking bad about you, rumors. The way I feel inside sometimes when I'm lonely traveling, you know? But it's very positive and inspiring, I think."

Does Hilary get to go out and do normal things?

"It gets hard sometimes," she says. "I can't drive my car without people following me or if I go to a restaurant, I'm working, because everyone is staring or people are coming up to the table."

"Some of it is really hard and I'm like, 'I wish I could turn a button off,' but another part of it is really flattering and keeps me wanting to, like, do things for these people, you know? And, hopefully, to inspire them."

In her latest film, "Raise Your Voice," she plays an aspiring singer whose life is transformed by a summer at a performing arts school. She says making movies and recording music has left her "a little tired."

"The movie is dramatic and this girl has struggles that she has to deal with, but like everyone always says to me, 'Where are the crime scenes?' I'm like, 'No.'"

Releases successful pop album Metamorphosis and Number One hit single "So Yesterday." Plays Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt's fashion-conscious daughter Lorraine in the remake of "Cheaper By the Dozen," compared by one critic to "the worst-ever episode of The Brady Bunch, only without a laugh track to tell us when we're supposed to be enjoying ourselves."

2004 - Takes center stage in her film, "A Cinderella Story" which critics call "perfect for a 12-year-old girl" and "horrible."

2004 - Stars in "Raise Your Voice" as a smalltown teen with a gift for singing who attends a competitive big city singing camp.
