John Frazee

Senior Vice President, News Services, CBS News

(CBS)  John Frazee has been Senior Vice President, News Services, CBS News, since May 2001. Before that, he was Vice President, News Services, CBS News (1989-2001).

Frazee was the architect of CBS Newspath, the world’s largest satellite newsgathering operation, and is a founder of its European component, the European News Exchange (ENEX), which now includes more than 25 non-U.S. partners. He was instrumental in CBS News’ conversion to digital technology, creating and introducing highly efficient digital production and transmission systems. Frazee has also taken an active part in CBS News’ expansion into new media.

He had been Executive Producer, CBS News Services, since October 1983. In 1986, Frazee started CBS Newspath. He also implemented the first network-affiliate regional news exchange. These regional cooperatives now cover all CBS affiliates and include 14 dedicated offices serving CBS Newspath subscribers.

Frazee joined CBS News in 1983 from KMOX-TV St. Louis, where he held several news management positions. In 1980, he received an Emmy Award for excellence in religious programming. Frazee produced the first live local electronic newsgathering (ENG) coverage of political conventions for KMOX-TV in 1976. He also won awards for special programs on AIDS, dioxin poisoning and for special live reports.

Prior to joining KMOX-TV, Frazee worked for WDAF-TV Kansas City, Mo., and KANU-FM Radio in Lawrence, Kan.

Frazee was born in Coffeyville, Kan., and graduated from Kansas University in Lawrence with a B.S. in journalism. He is a member of the William Allen White Society at the University of Kansas and of the Board of Visitors for Louisiana State University's Manship School of Mass Communications in Baton Rouge. Frazee is a board member of ENEX and a director of the North American National Broadcasters Association. He lives in New York.
