Jim Murphy

(CBS)  Jim Murphy was Executive Producer, CBS Evening News, from January 2000 to December 2005. He had been the broadcast's senior broadcast producer since May 1999, overseeing its daily assembly.

As executive producer, Murphy led the broadcast during some of the most significant events in recent history, including the Sept. 11 attacks, the Columbia space shuttle tragedy and the war with Iraq. He covered many international stories, accompanying Dan Rather on multiple trips to the Middle East, Afghanistan, Kuwait and Baghdad, where he helped secure the Network's exclusive interview with Saddam Hussein in February 2003.

Under his leadership, the CBS Evening News was recognized with numerous awards including six Emmy Awards. He was part of the team that won a 2004 and 2002 Columbia University --Alfred I. DuPont Award, and a 2003 RTDNA Edward R. Murrow Award for "Overall Excellence."

Murphy had previously been senior broadcast producer of 48 Hours (1997-99) and executive producer of This Morning and its predecessor, CBS This Morning (1994-97). He was the senior broadcast producer of CBS This Morning (1993-94), after having served as a segment producer on the broadcast since joining CBS News in 1993.

Murphy was the supervising producer and director of the nationally syndicated program Siskel and Ebert (1988-93) and held several producer roles at WCBS-TV, the CBS Owned station in New York (1986-88). He was a producer at WABC-TV New York (1981-86) after having been an intern, desk assistant and, then, producer and writer at WPIX-TV New York (1977-81).

He was born in Queens, N.Y., and attended Queens College and Fordham University. He and his wife, Adrienne Barr, a freelance writer, live in New York with their son and daughter.
