CBS/NY Times Host Debate

Kerry, Edwards, Kucinich, Sharpton To Take Part; CBS Among Sponsors

(CBS)  "Countdown to Super Tuesday: The Democrats Debate," a live debate among the top four Democratic presidential contenders sponsored by CBS News, WCBS-TV, the CBS Owned station in New York, and The New York Times will take place on Sunday, Feb. 29, from 11:00 AM-12:00 Noon, ET. North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich and the Rev. Al Sharpton have agreed to participate. The event will take place at the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City.

CBS News’ FACE THE NATION, anchored by Bob Schieffer, will also originate from New York that day.

The one-hour debate with no breaks will be moderated by CBS News anchor Dan Rather, and questions will be posed by Rather, CBS 2 political reporter Andrew Kirtzman and The New York Times White House Correspondent Elisabeth Bumiller. The goal of the debate is to create an engaging and substantive forum to help voters make informed decisions.

CBS 2 in New York will carry the debate live, and the live feed will be offered to all CBS Owned and affiliated television stations. As of Thursday, Feb. 26, more than 70% of the CBS stations have committed to carrying the debate. "Countdown to Super Tuesday: The Democrats Debate" also will be carried live by the Discovery Times cable channel. WCBS-AM 880 in New York will broadcast it live, and it will be offered live to all CBS radio stations and affiliates by CBS Radio News.
