Destiny's Calling
(CBS)
Michelle Williams made a solo splash to the music world with her album "Heart To Yours."
Now, the Destiny's Child member has a new single, "My Only Love Is You," from her sophomore album, "Do You Know," which Williams is scheduled to perform on Friday's The Early Show.
Unlike her singing partners, Beyonce Knowles and Kelly Rowland, Williams decided to take a step away from the R&B/pop sound that garnered Destiny's Child Grammy and platinum-selling status. Instead "Heart To Yours" and "Do You Know" have R&B/gospel inspirations.
In 2002, "Heart to Yours" debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Gospel Albums chart, No. 3 on Billboard's Top Contemporary Christian tally and No. 57 on The Billboard 200. And, it has sold more than 198,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
As a show of her diversity, Williams has been starring on Broadway in Elton John and Tim Rice's musical "Aida" -- the story of a Nubian slave princess and the forbidden love that she shares with an Egyptian captain. Williams, however, ends her run on the musical on Feb. 15.
Williams became a member of Destiny's Child in 2000 after former members of the group left because of disagreements with management.
Destiny's Child is reported to be heading back into the studio soon to start working on a new album.
