(CBS)  Actor Paul Walker made his movie mark with the "Fast and Furious" films, which showcased sleek cars and heart-pounding chases.

In his new project, "Timeline," the fancy gadgets are gone, but the action is just as intense.

"Timeline" is inspired by Michael Crichton, the author of bestsellers "Jurassic Park," "Disclosure" and "The Andromeda Strain."

In "Timeline," a group of archaeology students are researching the Dordogne Valley of France, but they discover something out of the ordinary -- centuries old remains of their missing professor. Soon, the young men and women travel back to the 14th century, with the help of some sci-fi technology, to rescue their teacher during one of the most violent battles in world history.
