Actor Stars In New Television Movie '12 Mile Road'

(CBS)  Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning actor Tom Selleck returns to CBS primetime this weekend in "12 Mile Road."

Selleck stops by The Early Show on Tuesday to discuss the movie.

In the "12 Mile Road," Selleck plays Stephen Landis, a happy man on the surface with unresolved regrets underneath whose loving girlfriend, Leah (Anna Gunn), and her teenage daughter Roxanne (Tegan Moss), have recently moved in with him.

Their peaceful country life is soon disrupted by the arrival of Stephen's wild and unpredictable 16-year-old daughter Dulcie (Maggie Grace). At first, Stephen thinks his overwhelmed ex-wife, Angela (Wendy Crewson), whom he still misses, has exaggerated Dulcie's troubles. However, he soon witnesses Dulcie's bizarre and destructive behavior.

Selleck says he was approached with the script for "12 Mile Road" several years ago, which he loved. But the movie was never shot. Five years later, his agent approached the actor with the opportunity to work on the film. Selleck explains he immediately wanted to star in the film.

Selleck previous CBS shows were the successful "Magnum P.I.," which aired from 1980 to 1988, and the short-lived "The Closer," which aired in 1998.

In October, he'll be heading to Nova Scotia to work on a new miniseries based on the Scott Turow book "Reversible Errors."

"12 Mile Road" airs Sunday, September 28, 9 p.m. ET/PT.
