Maine Attraction: Red's Eats

(CBS)  The CBS News Sunday Morning made a Roadside stop to a place where finding lobster is no challenge — the Maine coast.

Here, enthusiasts say, the best place for lobster is Red's Eats. Most can't miss it driving down Route 1 through Wiscasset. Never mind that there are dozens of other items on the menu. At Red's, the lobster roll is the main attraction — voted the best in the state. Even a damp, cool day doesn't stop the crowds from trying to buy a lobster roll.

Also, patrons don't seem to mind sitting at the roadside stop's picnic tables located along the noisy Route 1. The food seems to satisfy them.

Red's real name is Alan Gagnon, and he owned the business for a quarter of a century. He put lobster rolls on the menu after he tasted one someplace else.

"There was celery in it and there was mayonnaise, and there was frozen lobster, and it was terrible," said Gagnon. "I said, 'I'm going to make a lobster roll.'"

Daughter Debbie loves the fast pace behind the window.

"It's fun to put out food that people 'ooh' and 'ahh' over," she said.

In Wiscasset, Maine, the lobster rolls at Red's are real roll models.
