On The Early Show, Haddon went over the reasons why the skin becomes dry during the winter, such as antibiotics for winter flu, heavy clothing, too much moisturizing and the drying effects of outdoor chills and indoor heating. To help solve the problem, Haddon emphasizes using exfoliate. She says it is important to open skin pores and get rid of dead skin before hydration.
Here are a couple exfoliates Haddon recommends:
Aveeno Skin Smoothing Body Scrub: Haddon says this product gently cleanses and exfoliates to reveal healthy skin, leaving skin softer and smoother. Aveeno's Body Scrub contains colloidal oatmeal and fine walnut grains (ingredient the company says helps smooth skin). Haddon says to apply the scrub to wet skin in shower, and work into a light lather with circular motion to gently smooth away dry, rough skin — avoiding contact with eyes. Cost: $7.
Blisslabs Lemon Peel: Before hopping into the shower, Haddon recommends scrupulously scrubbing, from shoulder to toes, a handful of the Blisslab's Lemon Peel for five minutes. The company claims that the lemon peeling will keep your wardrobe from being worn prematurely thin by dead cell accumulation on knees and elbows. Cost: $28.
Noode Scrub Me Gently: This face exfoliate has fine particles that makes it extremely gentle on the face, according to Haddon. The Scrub Me Gently has algae extract, which makes it soothing and gets rid of dead cells and bad skin, the company says. Use two to three times a week and scrub off with your hand, instructs Haddon. Cost: $17.50.
Lil Piggies Foot Kit: This exfoliate also moisturizes the feet. The kit includes a 3.3-ounce of Soul Owner foot cream, a 2-ounce Foot Note foot scub and a foot scrubber. Cost: $25.
After exfoliating, Haddon says you can moisturize your body parts. Using thick body moisturizers rehydrates the skin. Haddon recommends choosing a moisturizer depending on your skin type. Moisturizers range from moderately priced to very expensive.
Here are a some moisturizers Haddon recommends:
Relax! Professional Concepts: This moisturizer can be used to balance and moisturize, smooth and protect dry, rough, tired skin, says Haddon. Simply smooth the moisturizer over you body until the skin absorbs it. Cost: $26.
Neutrogena Body Moisturizer: The body moisturizer hydrates skin with therapeutic moisture levels that last all day, says Haddon. She says the non-greasy, glycerin-rich formula penetrates instantly, turning even the driest, roughest skin smooth. Cost: $10.
True Blue Spa Puttin' on the Spritz: This oil spray moisturizes the skin, says Haddon. It is made from orange peel and aloe extracts; plus True Blue says the antioxidant Vitamins C and E help prevent damage. Cost: $15.
Ahava Hand Creme : Ahava’s most popular product. Non-oily and quick-absorbing, it leaves hands soft and younger-looking, says Haddon. Cost: $17.
L'Oreal Age Perfect Day: The L'Oreal product tightens and deeply hydrates the skin, says Haddon. L'Oreal claims wrinkles and fine lines are reduced after use and within four weeks, skin is measurably firmer, more resilient. Cost: $15.79.
Shiseido Future Solution: Haddon says the revitalizing cream addresses visible signs of wrinkles, fine lines and loss of resilience with skin-fortifying botanicals and vitamins and rich, invigorating hydrators. Shiseido suggests to smooth a small amount of cream evenly over face and neck each morning and evening as the last step of your skin-care routine. Cost: $220.
Fresh Crème Ancienne: The crème can be used on your face and body to hydrate, soften and nurture dry skin. It combines the core ingredients from his formula - rosewater, beeswax and borax - with precious modern-day ingredients of chamomile wax, meadowfoam oil and vitamin E. It won't be available until May. Cost: $250.
