Dole And Clinton To Debate U.N.
(CBS)
Former President Bill Clinton and former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole will debate whether the United Nations has outlived its usefulness this Sunday on 60 Minutes.
The debate, the second segment in a planned series of 10 called Clinton & Dole / Dole & Clinton, will air March 16 at 7 p.m. ET/PT.
The pair kicked off their segment last week, arguing about the president's proposed tax cut.
This is the latest in a long series of encounters, some friendly and some not, between the two.
President Clinton and Senator Dole were opponents in the 1996 presidential election. After Sept. 11, 2001, they co-chaired a scholarship fund that helped raise more than $100 million for the children and spouses of those killed or permanently disabled by the terrorist attacks. In January 1997, President Clinton presented Senator Dole with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
This new venture is an experiment for both. "If we bust out and nobody wants to watch us and they're bored stiff, CBS could make 75 or 80 percent of the American people happy if they fired both of us," the former president said recently.
