High Surprise In Child's Lunch Box
The mother and stepfather of a Mobile, Ala., first-grader were arrested Monday after the boy brought marijuana to school in his lunch box, police said.
The child, identified by police only as a 6-year-old boy, found about an ounce of marijuana in his Star Trek lunch box while eating lunch at Nan Gray Davis Elementary School, said Shane McBryde, spokesman for the Mobile County Sheriff's Department.
"The boy opened his lunch box but he didn't know what it was," McBryde said of the drug. "He took it to his teacher and she recognized it and called the sheriff's office."
Deputies arrested the boy's mother, Brandi Leigh Williams, 25, and stepfather, Wyman Chester, 36, at their home, where they found 3 ounces of marijuana and two marijuana plants about 8 inches tall each, McBryde told the Mobile Register.
The two were charged with possession of marijuana, and Chester also was charged with possession of a controlled substance in pill form, McBryde said. McBryde said he did not know what was in the pills.
Each was released on $2,500 bond.
School principal Susan White could not be reached for comment. McBryde said no disciplinary action was taken against the child.
