Broadway On The Plaza: 'Oklahoma'
(CBS)
The sounds of the heartland ring through midtown Manhattan when the cast of the Broadway revival, "Oklahoma!" visits The Early Show as part of its Broadway on the Plaza series.
This revival of the 1943 Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein's musical opened last March after a successful London try-out. "Oklahoma!" was the first collaboration between the Broadway legends. "Oklahoma!" was the longest running musical of its time and held the record for 15 years.
The musical is set in the territory of Oklahoma at the turn of the century, against a background of a rivalry between cattlemen and farmers. It is the story of a farm girl, and the two men vying for her affection: a cowboy and a farmhand.
Directed by Trevor Nunn and featuring the work of Tony-award winning choreographer Susan Stroman of "The Producers" and "Contact," "Oklahoma!" was nominated this year for seven Tony awards and took home one.
The cast will perform three numbers, "Kansas City," "Beautiful Mornin'," and "All 'Er Nothin'" in The Early Show Plaza in New York Thursday at noon. The spectacle will air Friday morning on The Early Show.
