Robert Wagner In 'Goldmember'
(CBS)
Robert Wagner is back as Dr. Evil's 'Number Two' in "Goldmember." Wagner stops by The CBS Early Show to discuss going up against Austin Powers once again.
Wagner's showbiz career has spanned more than half a century, but he had never really been considered a comedic actor. His role as Dr. Evil's sidekick proved he could carry a comedy and cemented his popularity with a new generation.
"Goldmember" is a prequel to "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery" and "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me." "Goldmember," probes into the roots of Dr. Evil's evil as they journey back in time to when Austin Powers and Dr. Evil were classmates. Rob Lowe plays Wagner as young 'Number Two.'
"Austin Powers in Goldmember" opens July 26th.
Wagner came to Hollywood in 1949 and thrived during his first years there. He starred in memorable films such as "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," where he played opposite Natalie Wood and Laurence Olivier, "The Longest Day" (1962), "The Pink Panther" (1963), and "Harper" (1966), with Paul Newman.
His marriage to actress Natalie Wood in 1957, ended in divorce 5 years later. Ten years later, the couple remarried. Wood drowned off their yacht, 'Splendour,' in 1981 while the couple were on holiday together. He later married longtime companion Jill St John.
Wagner is also very involved with the Kidney & Urology Foundation and serves as their honorary chairman. Wagner will also receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in July.
