Tracy Smith

(CBS News)  Tracy Smith is a correspondent for "CBS News Sunday Morning." She also reports for "48 Hours Mystery."

Her work at "Sunday Morning" includes cover stories on issues in the news, arts and culture features and celebrity profiles. She's covered several major news events for CBS, including the Sept. 11 attacks, Hurricane Katrina, the Minneapolis bridge collapse, the winter Olympics in Torino, Italy and the 2008 presidential campaign.

Smith joined CBS News in 2000, and was a national correspondent for "The Early Show," co-anchored the "Saturday Early Show," and reported on breaking news and features for "The CBS Evening News."

Before coming to CBS, Smith worked as an anchor and reporter for Channel One News (1993-2000) where she reported on the rise of neo-Nazis in Germany, Yitzhak Rabin's assassination in Israel, the civil war in Southern Sudan, the war in Chechnya, the long-ranging effects of Chernobyl and the aftermath of genocide in Rwanda.

Prior to that, Smith served as a part-time reporter for KERO-TV, the CBS affiliate in Bakersfield, Calif. (1993).

Smith received three Association of Women in Television Gracie Allen awards, seven National Educational Media Network Awards, a Golden Hugo from The Chicago International Film Festival, and a Gold World Medal from the New York Festivals.

Smith was born in Wyoming, Ohio. She graduated cum laude from Boston University in 1990 with a bachelor of science degree and earned a master's of arts in broadcast journalism from the University of Southern California in 1993. Smith lives in New York City with her husband and two children.

Children are loosing the freedom to be kids.to learn, laugh and simply play. it saddens me. i am a medium and have channeled many messages to parents from their kids who have committed suicide because of bullying. also another issue is anti medication. it is getting in the way of the bully and the bullied to cope with the emotions connected. i wish i could scream for the kids in the spirit world trying to help.. will you listen? beth lynch www.innerlightteaching.com

I agree with the above opinion. I've never commented on a TV news show before. I felt Tracy Smith was rude and unprofessional. She made the segment uncomfortable to watch. I felt Ryan Seacrest did a great job with her inappropriate questions. After watching the interview, I truly respect Ryan for his kindness, sincerity and civility. He's a great guy with a great heart. Can't say the same about Tracy Smith. What a disappointment!!

I just finished watching the segment on Ryan Seacrest that Tracy Smith "covered" on Sunday, August 21, 2011. I am shocked and appalled at the callousness and ridiculousness of her so-called "hard hitting questions" regarding Mr. Seacrest's childhood and sexuality.
I want to know who you think you are, that you can ask ANYONE, but especially in front of a national television audience about how "a fat kit" can invest in restaurants and "how about those gay jokes".
REALLY?!?!?!?!?! WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? How disrespectful can one be. You have a responsibility to ask questions and I do not expect that the world should be completely PC, but attacking a celebrity is unacceptable. Especially when said celebrity mentions in the interview (and you subsequently harp upon) that his goal is not to be controversial and is fine with being "vanilla". You then have the audacity to continue to bring up his childhood weight (in front of his family no less) trying to create some drama. You are a pathetic excuse for a reporter and I was astonished to read your bio and background and the privileges that you've been given. You are undeserving of the opportunities you have been given and you should be ashamed of your title of "reporter/correspondent". I have no reservations that these words will probably never be read by you and furthermore, you could care less about my opinion. However, my reaction to your piece on Ryan Seacrest needed to be "heard", even if ONLY by a digital audience.
