In The Spotlight "From Boys to Men" A book by The Early Show medical correspondent Dr. Emily Senay
Senay joined CBS News as a freelance correspondent for Up to the Minute, the overnight broadcast, where she worked on a continuing women’s health series called “Prescription for Women.”
Before that, Dr. Senay was the anchor for Medical News Network, a direct-broadcast satellite network for physicians owned by Whittle Communications. She began her career in medical journalism as a producer and medical editor for Lifetime Medical Television, a cable television network for physician education.
In addition to making house calls for homebound patients in Manhattan through Betances Health Unit, Dr. Senay has worked in a variety of clinical settings including Rikers Island, New York City's largest jail, and the Floating Hospital, a non-profit health clinic for underserved families.
Dr. Senay is the 2003 recipient of the Society for Women’s Health Research Excellence in Journalism award for her CBS News Sunday Morning piece, "A Dose of Reality: Conflicting Healthcare Information May Be Confusing for Women." Her book, "From Boys to Men: A Woman’s Guide to the Health of Husbands, Sons, Brothers, and Fathers," was published in April 2004 by Scribner.
Dr. Senay was born on Nov. 11, 1960 in New Haven, Conn. She graduated from the University of Chicago in 1983 with a B.A. in biology. In 1988, she received her M.D. and in 2006, a Masters of Public Health from New York's Mount Sinai School of Medicine. She is Board Certified in General Preventive Medicine. Currently, Dr. Senay is the director of the Master of Public Health Program at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine where she continues to pursue her interests in underserved populations, preventive medicine and public health.
She and her husband live with their three children in New York City.
